Returns on sample sale31 Jul 2023 09:50
Like many of us, I took the opportunity to load up on sample stock during the sale. Looking back, for asos it seemed like this was not only an opportunity to get rid of old stock that is difficult to shift, but also to test out a different returns process.
I went crazy during the sale and ended up with about 40 items coming to my house. Inevitably, there was lots that didn't fit me properly or just looked plain awful, so I was going to send some stuff back. But the returns process was horrible, it was incredibly difficult to find where to generate the returns label, and when I eventually found it I had input individually the product code, the description of the item, the amount for refund, the quantity of items and the reason for returning for EVERY item. So I thought sod this and I gave it to a charity. I imagine a fair few people couldn't be bothered with the returns process so I imagine the return rate is much lower for the sample sale vs their normal site. It left me a bit miffed but I would certainly be more selective in the future if they implemented this on their main site. Can certainly see this process being helpful for profitability and making the lives of those influencer tiktok serial returners a bit more difficult!
Interesting if anyone else felt this if they tried returning anything from their sample site and whether they think this would be good for their main site.
Maybe they can keep the sample site with this returns process, but maybe next time charge £7 or £10 per item, or at least have a tiered system because I managed to get a leather jacket which probably retailed for £100 for only a £5er which seemed a bit silly to me.
