One problem is that they are tied to each other. Gas is unlikely to go too low because of the love affair with renewables.

The obfuscation between heating and electricity power ensures that Brenda from Bristol (and Bertha from Bremen) will never understand and be ignored by those in power busy saving the planet. "It's for your own good and your children and grandchildren" runs up against the obvious flaw in the argument that kids today have never had it so good but the NHS and housing shortage are bigger problems. A successful and essential industry is being prematurely closed down by a combination of penal tax rates and flawed 'science' whilst 'renewables' are given increasing subsidies to cover their much higher costs than oil and gas.

Renewables for a short while held the promise of being cheaper if you ignored capital costs and were prepared to go without energy on cloudy windless days. Meanwhile, away from Europe, other countries are enjoying the fruits of fossil fuels and their annual holidays to COP (Brazil this year). It is wrong to use fossil fuels in the UK but fine to import from other countries goods made by burning coal.

The Green grift has run its course. The promised rewards and benefits never turned up. Ed and his congregation are hitting the immutable fact that unlike the afterlife (heaven) keeping warm and active needs evidence. Belief is something that is considered true. What is true is that reliance on renewables will impoverish this country (and Europe) and ensure we fall further behind those who don't share the fundamentalism of prophets like Ed Miliband.

I only agree with the first 2 bullet points. The last 2 are window dressing. The Unions are backing down on ideology. All we need now is for the Government to see sense. I think the fact that 7 Labour MPs support the Unite campaign is telling. Scotland itself is still not "all in". 65 from 129 is barely a majority and more like 50/50. Lets hope it grows!

No LibDem MSP support but they remain a shade of Green and must see the direction of the tide.

I don't know enough about Scottish politics to know if the Regional additional MSPs are important or how it split. I read that there are 57 constituencies in Scotland who can vote in Parliament. I'm sure that Unite would fluff up the figures and I'd be more interested in how many of those in Westminster are prepared to look over the parapet. For instance 30 Conservative voted for the campaign but there are only 4 Conservative MPs from Scotland in Westminster.

I think the number of Westminster MPs supporting the campaign may not be as encouraging and that this is little more than a petition. The 3rd and 4th bullet points made it acceptable and basically toothless.

China, India and the US know the advantage lies with fossil fuels. If AI is the end result/quest then why handicap yourself. Pragmatism is trumping ideology. What has been the point of Ed Miliband?

Slightly O/T. I mentioned the lack of forestry management to my daughter as being one major cause of the LA fires. I expected to have to explain and argue when instead she agreed and added more info. Last year she spent time with the Karuk tribe in Northern California doing research for a book she's writing. Land management was a big part of their culture and there had been excitement over Biden's Executive Order allowing more Federal funding and Tribal self-determination and governance. The reality was different. They were blocked at every opportunity by local officials. Nimbyism is alive and well in California and you have the blatant hypocrisy that the climate activists think they know more than the indigenous people. And they like to accuse us of colonialism.

I check the National Grid Live from time to time https://grid.iamkate.com/ and noticed that today the interconnectors are basically not there. We're giving energy to France (unusual, Nuclear basically) and Norway is reliable Hydro cancelling it out. It says to me that the UK prefers to use gas rather than import interconnectors. Either because they're needed by the overseas producers or just as likely that GAS IS CHEAPER.

I'm gonna make a prediction. I believe that most people do their best at work. I think the workers and management at NESO will be unhappy about being used as a political football. I reckon leaks are on their way. Ed Miliband's pack of cards is looking shaky.

Purely an observation but significant imo. You need the public with you and the Daily Telegraph can be an echo chamber with like-minded readers of a right wing bent so not necessarily followed across the rest of MSM. I only read the DT because it is cheap digitally (£39 1 year) and on climate is largely in agreement with me. For balance I am also a member of Unite Union who are badly led and sending out mixed messages from their crackpot fringe (I declined the invitation to the Marx memorial Library affiliation or the National March for Palestine) who I mistakenly thought were concerned mainly about jobs.

Back to the DT. The Badenoch story on NZ had 59 comments. The heat pump never cheaper than gas boilers story had 2144 comments.

I think that is the indicator of where thing weigh heaviest. Maybe to a politician it is 59 votes against 2144. I think we all know to whom they listen.
