I heard this morning that the UK produces more power from wind farms than the rest of Europe put together, we need to store this intermittant energy so it's available when it's needed at peak demand. "Battery storage allows the utilisation of renewable energy to become more widespread. The increase in renewable energy within the power system creates the need to regulate the injection and removal of power by the second. Battery energy storage corrects the power imbalance more effectively than fossil fuelled thermal resources"

The blowback from a fumbled Eurobond is just unconscionable!!

REDT will be a winner here if it can be proven that it's more cost effective than existing energy sources. With the ability to store solar and wind energy or for the UK maybe even wave energy which costs nothing you've got to believe it has a future, currently power plants crank up the power to meet demand and increase supply which as we know is continually increasing. Large scale Vanadium redox flow batteries could be the answer to greater demands on the grid in the future. Very much an emerging technology and work in progress but a lot cleaner & greener to boot than what we currently have, especially with advent of shale gas which now has the green light

Reading between the lines it would appear that the Kenyan goverment want 10% ownership of the company and increased royalties from 2.5% to 10% which may be the cause of the delay with the export licence, apparently the pre existing contract is what null & void? I'm expecting bad news tomorrow and may have to sell if this goes pear shaped, lets hope not ! GL Rocka

It appears to have been delayed somewhat, might have an announcement tomorrow from Mr Balala regards the permit, typical of the Kenyan goverment to mess the company about at this late stage, will think twice before investing in any company involved with Kenya in the future, they really need to get their act together if they want international investment to come pouring in

Qinetiq, the company spun out of the Ministry of Defence research department, is on the move after reports of a deal with Pakistan. Its shares are up 7.7p or 3.4% to 235.2p following talk that the company has sold $7.8m worth of Talon robots, unmanned ground vehicles used to track bombs and other explosives, to the country. The order was said to comprise 100 of the military robots.

Well they bought at 6.5 so I'll use that as the benchmark for now assuming they know a lot more than I do !

I've took the plunge this morning (not that large 700k trade though) after going through the accounts and reading some of the recent RNS, like you say there has been plenty of transformation going on within the company, Optasense looks promising from what I've read, I'm always one for technical innovation!

This is starting to look like Ocado, on a very steep move up! I may have to look for some pennies and get in for the year end !

Not sure if the Kenyans have granted those permits as yet for the exports ?

I've actually had a tour of a biomass plant here in the UK and I was quite impressed with the whole operation, they were producing that much gas from maize that they were actually burning off the excess which I thought was a bit of a waste, the rated capacity was 2810 kW and the annual income was £630,000 although the plant wasn't connected to the grid at that point. Even after today's rise the SP still looks cheap using 6.5p as a benchmark, looks like there was some support at 5.125p and I'm pleased to say today's finish was above the 100dma at 5.48 (albeit just) ! The 20dma is now 6.28 with resistance at 6.25 then 8.375 thereafter

Kenya’s first export shipment of titanium ores from the Kwale Mineral Sands project deposits will consist of 100 tonnes of rutile, officials have announced. Officials at Base Titanium indicated yesterday that the rutile shipment will go out as containerised cargo from the Mombasa Port Container terminal heading to Japan. According to Base Titanium General Manager, External Affairs Development Joe Schwarz, 25,000 metric tonnes of ilmenite will be shipped in from its own port handling facility in Likoni during the first week of February 2014. “We do have international customers already lined up apart from Japan in far flung nations of the USA, Europe, China and the Middle East,’’ he said. Base Titanium announced in late December it had applied for its first export permit from the Ministry of Mining for the first shipments of titanium products from its giant mines. “These first shipments represents key milestones in the development of the country’s first large scale state of the art mining project,” the firm had said in an earlier statement. Rutile is a mineral which may contain up to 10 per cent iron and significant amounts of niobium and tantalum, which can be used in electronic equipment such as mobile phones, DVD players, video games systems and computers. “Base Titanium expects to send out approximately 15 bulkier shipments a year from our own port facility so there will be a shipment every three to four weeks,” Schwarz said.
