MrLong, it's not that simple even, of course they are not all losing money, i have portfolio of 6 funds 1 investment trust and 8 shares

My aim is to grow my pension pot as much as possible, but right now the ones that are making profit just seem to be making up for the ones that are going into loss and just balancing out, and with inflation over 10% you need to be making at least 10% profit just to break even

maybe you guys are doing a lot better, i don't know

Trader, we will have to stop giving in to these temptations

probably be better of with a 4.75 % savings account or even just putting money in a piggy bank lol

just seems to be a no win situation with shares this year, my largest holding is with Lloyds bank and even though they had better than expected results the share price still drops

just out of curiosity is anyone making profits from shares this year? or is it just me picking all the wrong ones

This share never fails to disappoint even my last top up @86p is under water now, will it continue it's downward trend or is there a chance this could recover, always difficult to know when to cut your losses and get out

Gutter, if you look at the charts for house builders such as persimmon, the sp is currently at a 10 year low, and Vodafone is at an all time low, most people would say this is a buying time not a selling time, hopefully we will be in a better place a year from now, we need something good to happen like an end to the war in Ukraine

Dan, i wouldn't have clue as to advising anyone, i am my own worse enemy sometimes , it's not just the shares it's getting the timing right as well something I'm definitely not very good at, but yes lgen and aviva have both announced profits and also increased their dividend, but the sp is down on both at the moment not helped by going exdiv and the banking crisis, a couple of things on my watch list is maybe adding more to persimmon, share price was over £30 in 2021 now down to around £13, maybe worth adding at some time if inflation and interest rates drop and a new help to buy is introduced could be some good growth and dividends there, but most of all when some of my shares hopefully reach a high again i will be selling some of them and increasing my funds, much less risk than individual shares and quite often provide more growth providing inflation drops

just my thoughts I'm sure some will disagree, also a rise in Vodafone would be very welcome

Dan, i wouldn't worry mate i never get it right anyway :-) this could do with a good dose of steroids at the moment, but pretty much the same with everything else too

Hi Dan, yes you definitely need a sense of humour here mate, not a place for the easily offended, was hoping 2023 would have been a good turning point for the shares, but looks like we may have to wait a bit longer, as another poster once said events can change everything, let's hope we get some good events then hey, a lot more patience needed here i think

After reading posts on these boards for several years you get to realise there are two types of posters here

those who don't know and those who don't know that they don't know

One thing we do know is this share has been on it's famous ski slope since 2018, will it /can it change direction from here well maybe it can or maybe it will still be the same old underperforming share for the next 5 years or more

after reading about people saying they are thinking of going big into this share, is it worth the risk ?

But whether you agree or not, do us all a favour and give the insults a rest guys, they are not helpful

Dan, if only some of the people on here could be honest it would be a lot more helpful, the reality is there are not many shares doing really well lately and i would guess most investors are in loss with some of there shares, maybe not as badly as this has been doing lately perhaps, but you have to accept the bad times as well as the good, but as some will say it's only a loss if you need to sell, let's see if this new management can turn this company around or at least get it out above a £1 for now

Hi Dan, with the share price being so low approaching results i had a feeling this was going down for now at least, despite Androids optimism, wasn't trying to put it down it was just my honest thoughts on it, but hey it's only money and not going to worry about it, and I'm not in any hurry to sell so may as well take some more dividends and hope it will start climbing those ladders again

Unfortunately, there's only one thing you can be sure of with this share, that is year after year it never fails to disappoint

but you make your own mind up guys, for me I'm caught in a trap with this share

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for a good result for us long suffering Voders tomorrow guys

Zac0_4, I get what your saying it is disappointing, but I would imaging most people would say they have as many shares in the red as they do in the green at the moment, for instance just take a look at how Vodafone and direct line have been doing lately ,and i know you have at least 5 of the same funds i have and they haven't been moving for a quite a while either have they, it's just been a difficult time on the stock market lately, let's hope it changes in the not too distant future
