Zac, i agree with you about the funds, i would have been better off keeping all of my 11 funds instead of buying extra shares

you are lucky you are not invested in bt/vod/lloy directline then you really would have something to complain about?

lgen sp is disappointing at the moment as are most shares, but as long as you're not in any hurry to sell, there's a very good chance the sp will return to £3 or more if so you won't have lost any capital, and an 8% dividend for waiting is still a good return to have alongside of you're funds

Until inflation and interest rates stop rising i expect this downward trend will continue, these company's don't have a magic wand, there's is less money in peoples pockets, and inflation is eating away the profits

Mrlong, It will depend how long you can wait. And how old you are if you're 18 you may have a bit of a chance, I've waited 6 years and it's just kept going down , seriously though i really hope this has turned a corner but i wouldn't like to bet my life savings on it, right now i will be happy to see it get back to a £1 so i can recover the losses from my last top up here, the remainder i will just leave in here and just keep taking the dividends

If they are selling off parts of the company to reduce debt that will possibly mean less profits for Vodafone in the future

I will ask you guys you're opinions on that

share prises dropping the last week seems to be the general trend with most shares though , so don't think we should be too hard on vod at the moment

Bald_eagle, yes of course, you can't leave the house without being on someone's cameras anymore, the world is changing all we can hope for is that it will improve peoples lives and make them happier

hard to believe though that we are still getting these unnecessary wars such as in Ukraine, in some ways we are going backwards

Nolo/gwm, I don't plan on doing anything right now, other than collecting dividends until my shares hopefully one day will get back closer to the top of their trading range, i still have a feeling things could get worse before getting better, if only we knew when the turning point will be

these are 3 funds that have performed well in the past with low ongoing charges, not a recommendation of course past performance is all you can go on

note the drop on the charts from jan 2022 when inflation took effect

I just keep my fingers crossed with Vodafone that one day it will change direction

NoloServileCapis, I agree with you on all of that and also as zac was saying funds have outperformed shares over the last 5 years, but since jan 2022 there is little to no growth and it's the same trend with most of the funds and individual shares, so collecting dividends maybe the best option for now, i have several shares paying out dividends soon vod/mng/lgen/aviva/lloyds and i will be pooling all my dividends together, the big question then is where best to invest them, this is where i look for ideas from you guys, my thoughts are to make my portfolio 70% funds and 30% shares, but will not be looking to sell my lgen shares

NoloServileCapis, I think most people are fed up with the lies from this tory government over Brexit the Pandemic etc, and expect the Labour government will win with a majority, how that will work out remains to be seen

but do we really want to bring politics onto this forum? the Lloyds board is full of armchair politicians arguing all day long

Zac, that is a difficult one, my fundsmith and some other funds are worth less now than they were back in January 2022, lgen is currently down as well, but we have been receiving a generous dividend from lgen whilst we are waiting for the sp to recover

It really depends on what years you are taking the figures from, but as you say if your taking it on the last 5 years the funds out performed and there's a good chance they will over the next 5 years, but in this period from jan 2022 until who knows when, as we can't predict what will happen in the next year, possibly we are better off collecting dividends for now

Zac, the problem with the funds is they haven't made any gains since January 2022 and it's the same trend with most of them, so whilst they are on stop possibly until we see inflation coming down, don't you think the dividend shares are a better choice right now? capital growth will come back eventually and i expect the funds will then start growing the same time

It's just not good times for any dividend paying shares right now lgen in same boat, all we can do is keep taking the dividends until things will hopefully get better, as the title says here don't worry this is a solid company
