Stumpy, thanks for the reply, the problem is nothing is obvious is it, especially where vod is concerned as its trading at a very low price at the moment and at some point the tide will change direction, if only we knew when we could all get very rich, you mentioned 2 you made money on shorting but I expect there may also be some you haven't yet mentioned that you have lost on

Stumpy, so are you making good profits from shorting, more than you would make from buying and holding medium term

Dan, i really don't give a dam about gutter or jax saying the share price is going down every day as we all know it's not going to make the slightest bit of difference to the share price, just laugh it off and take the micky that helps, I'm sure everyone here has already worked out that they are total nutcases

the reality is though they maybe right, my thoughts are things might get worse before they can get better and we could see more businesses folding as inflation interest rates energy costs etc, will be forcing people to make cut backs

we are definitely in need of something good to turn things around

but they are just my thoughts, who knows what will happen next after the events over the last few years

hopefully you guys disagree with me and there's a bull market on the way, that would be nice

Stumpy, just an observation watching all my shares going downhill, I wonder if and when things will get better and we can actually make some money on the stock market again, seems like a distant memory when shares and funds were actually growing and making a profit

All shares are falling, vod is just following the trend

These are difficult times for most businesses at the moment with high inflation and interest rates etc. Hopefully this will get back to a £1 and beyond in the not too distant future

DAN, I agree about basing the yields on your average, but what matters more than anything of course is the total returns, share price still looking good, another push up a bit later would be nice

Amee, just something for you to consider, the share price usually drops more than the dividend amount when it goes exdiv, so a lot of people prefer to buy after it's gone exdiv so you get more shares for you're money, if you intend holding for a while you may want to give that some thought, but there's no guarantee on that of course

Jax, I think your wrong this is still very under valued at it's current price, but you will need to be very patient it won't go up in a straight line

In these troubled times, taking a look at my portfolio my 8 funds are all in profit and most have returned between 45 and 60 percent over the last 5 years and most of my shares are in loss apart from 2, at my age I'm thinking the best option is to greatly reduce my number of individual shares and increase my funds, but i expect it will be a long process waiting for some of my shares to get back to near the top of their trading range before i can sell them off or reduce them, but investing is a personal thing and everyone is different

just my thoughts

Don't be mean sidi i need it to go up not down 225 would be a good selling price

so i will try and keep the dream going

I will go for 83 for next Friday please roofer, let's hope it can hold on around the 80p and another push up later on

Holiday you must be joking mate, I spent a day and evening at Bristol airport on the 28th august and was then told our holiday was cancelled due to air traffic control problems, have rebooked though going soon i hope

Good morning sidi, no i never did sell out here in fact i bought more when they dropped to 86p thought it was a bargain at the time, I'm beyond help lol, never mind i will have to try a bit harder maybe it could turn out good eventually, just hope I'm not too old to enjoy it lol

Personally i can't see the share price making much movement this year, it's not just about fundamentals there are just too many headwinds with all the crap that's going on in the world, hopefully 2024 will be a better and more prosperous year

anyway whether you agree or not, one things for sure nothing anyone says on here will make the slightest bit of difference, so try and laugh it off
