Hi Fleccy, If there was an award for the most patient investor, i would give to you for sure, and i mean that as a compliment

If i compare this with 3 of my better investments lgen/aviv and mng they all pay good dividends but are also all in profit , so no loss of capital, i do of course have others that have not worked out so well, just saying though we will need to get that loss of capital back eventually to make it all worth while, so let's hope we will all eventually get rewarded for our patients here

Dan i like to share some of my profits with the broker for all their hard work, don't be so mean, i am only joking of course, most of my investments are in my sipp and don't want all the hassle of changing, and they do have a good selection of funds available, maybe i should switch my stocks and shares isa though hl are expensive

Dan, we are all aware this has been a bad investment in the past, disappointed in it of course, but we will have to accept it and move on

right now the share price is so low, i'm thinking there's more chance of it rising than dropping, and i don't think i could sell any of my shares for under a £1 and re access the situation then, if only we had one of those crystal balls

surely everyone is bothered if they are losing more and more of their capital every year, if not they should be, especially when there's no guarantee they will ever get it back,sorry mate but sometimes you just have to get real and accept it

Gwm121, Guilts is definitely something i know very little about that is why i was asking the question, and as i'm close to fully retiring, i have been trying to preserve capital by reducing the number of shares in my portfolio and increasing my number of funds, also the thought of safeguarding some capital with a high interest guilt is something else i would be interested in, but that's an area i know very little about

lgen/aviv/mng have been my most reliable dividend payers without any loss of capital, then i have a few others that have been a big disappointment, i expect most people do, but as you say even the best are not guaranteed

Forensic, If Labour did get in with a clear majority, i suspect you will still be saying everyone else has got it wrong and you are right, that's politics for you, I've no idea if labour will do a better job or not, but i suspect most people are fed up with all the lies from this current government over Brexit the Pandemic immigration etc.

Anyway we are all quite busy arguing over the current Vodafone share price whether we are going to make a fortune here or lose our shirt

Hi Dan, neither confused or angry mate, the whole point of investing in the stock market is to make a profit not a loss, up until now it's just not worked out that way with Vodafone, Do they now have the expertise to make this change direction, what do you think?

most shares go up and down i get that, but when they only go in one way, alarm bells start ringing

let's see where we are next year and let's hope something good can finally happen here

Dan, personally, i would not invest another penny in this company, it has dropped every year for the last six years, and possibly it will under perform for the next six as well, how many accountants have we had on here saying how much this company is under valued in the past and everyone of them have got it wrong, just look at the current share price. there are other dividend company's that can afford to pay the dividends without you losing more of your capital, having to sell off parts of the company in a desperate attempt to pay down debt is hardly the signs of a well managed company

How much will this drop by if they cut the dividend though? personally i just want to see this make it's way up to a £1 as soon as possible so i can sell at least 50% off

Garonne, It all comes down to what price you bought in here, for those who have bought in the 70s they will be thinking there's a good chance of this getting back to a £1 so a nice 25ish% increase in capital and pick up a few dividends on their journey, and for those who have bought in a lot higher will of course regard this as a dog share

you either get lucky or unlucky with shares, some you win some you lose

Doesn't really matter how it drops tomorrow, i just hope it doesn't take too long to make it's way back to a £1 if it can

Roofer, yes it is good to see dlg and other shares rising lately, if we get further inflation drops in 2024 it may be a good year, i did only say maybe who knows what can happen next in this World, and let's hope vod can follow the same trend, if it can't grow from this current price then we are in trouble

Gwm121, I'm definitely no expert but aviv or lgen i don't think there's much between them if anything that's why i hold both, as for dlg i expect this will recover as inflation drops at least i hope so then i can recover my losses, they told us the dividend was safe then shortly afterwards they cut it, this one was obviously the weakest link out of the 3 and i'm hoping to recover my losses and sell here , i expect others that have held this before the div cut are feeling the same

Gwm, all i can say is i wish you good luck with Vodafone, i wish i could sell mine and put the money into international funds, but i keep hoping it will get better, it just keeps dropping every year for the last 6 years, can it make some recovery, i really don't know but i'm sure there's plenty who disagree

Good evening sidi, i wouldn't be concerned about that, although there's no guarantees this one has never failed to come back good in the past, quite a few years ago i advised my wife to buy Lloyds shares around 60p, ever since she only invests her money in premium bonds and every time she gets a win, she will say btw how are my Lloyds shares doing, i wonder if i will ever make a profit from them and they are my biggest holding and lgen my second

Gwm121, aviv and lgen are both good dividend payers, personally i think house builders such as persimmon will be a good one for future growth and dividends, not a recommendation though
