Walp, everyone has their own strategy's really, and what's right for one person's circumstances may not be right for another, and also timing plays a big part, they say be prepared to invest for at least 5 years, but what no one can tell you is which 5 years, smt is a typical example for that, catch it on those right years and it can be very rewarding, on the bad years not good at all, as not only are you losing your capital, but you have very little income from it
I have recently retired myself, even though share prices are dropping right now I'm still getting good dividends from my shares which is a good boost to my state pension, and also funds and investment trusts are all helping with diversifying
In general, not a very good time for investors right now, unless you're buying of course
