Andy, I would love to know what you are thinking of investing in right now that's going to give you that growth you are seeking, as most shares/funds etc are underperforming right now, but please do share with us, we are all Ears

This is the UK we always get cold weather and floods in the winter, you would think that would be accounted for, but it seems not ?, sorry but it's a big disappointment having the dividend cut here, just hoping i will eventually get my money back

I have to ask you guys, how many of your shares are actually in profit and paying full dividend right now, if you find losing money exciting and sexy then go ahead and best of luck with it, i wonder how many people agree ? difficult times at the moment guys let's be realistic

I believe you Dan, i don't think anyone takes the fool serious lol, come to think of it I remember now it was aj bell that he used, but as you say the more trades you make the more profit for the brokers

Very risky adding here right now i would say, not saying it won't pay off for you, with all the crap that's been going on in the world the last few years, i wouldn't like to predict what will happen tomorrow let alone next week or 6 months from now

Hi Dan, I don't remember the exact amount, but i know CSDI for one had a similar account set up with hl, with very low dealing charges, some people like the drip feeding way of buying, but as you say those charges can mount up, not something i would do personally my charges would be too high for one thing, i prefer to put a few thousand in when a good opportunity comes up, looking better here now mate it's not going to go up in a straight line I'm sure but if we can see some improvements each week that will do for me

Dan surely it depends on what type of account you are using, a regular dealing account can be around £3 a trade and the tax will work out the same, but correct me if I'm wrong guys

MaryBr190, please don't say that lol, I'm all for topping up on shares at a discount price, but to wish one down could be fatal ?

Aangus1, some funds like fundsmith only do accumulation, but where there is a choice i usually pick income funds and leave the dividends accumulate in my sipp or isa accounts, not sure if this is the best way but i just like to see the dividend payments actually coming into my account

zac0_4, thanks for that i have been looking at a few of those trusts with interest, reducing the risks has to be a good thing these days, my dlg shares took another nasty turn last week now down to 172 with hindsight i could have sold them for over £3 last year on the other hand my Lloyds and Aviva shares are doing ok, if only we knew exactly when to buy and sell

bald_eagle, that's very true, if you look at smt Scottish mortgage trust they had a fantastic year in 2020 reaching an all time high of over £15 mainly due to their investment in tesla and amazon, then since the inflation problems they have now dropped down to around £8
one good thing with Hargreaves is there is no charges for buying and selling funds or topping up a smaller amounts, so you can swap around quite easily

HI Bald_Eagle, not sure what your getting at but I suppose it depends if you need to withdraw the money or not
Your right to point out Neil Woodford, funds area generally a safer option than individual shares but not bullet proof and many under perform
I used to have 11 funds but over the last year i have reduced them to 5 keeping the ones that are performing the best and increased my dividend shares instead, mainly because i have just reached retirement age, i use the dividend shares for income and funds and trusts for growth, all held in an isa and sipp
not being an expert this is just my way of keeping it as simple as possible and trying to have a more balanced portfolio
just pointing out there are swings and roundabouts with both so maybe a combination of both might be helpful to some, I'm sure everyone has a different strategy depending on their circumstances and what they are comfortable with, although some investments are doing ok at the moment others could definitely do with a good dose of steroids, as you pointed out you can get a good 5 year period and a bad one, let's hope the next 5 years are good

ZAC0_4 RE; How about their global tracker fund. L&G International Index Trust. It's outperformed this share over the last 5, 3 and 1 year periods and is safer than holding an individual share.

Hi ZAC, out of my 5 funds this is where they are at right now fundsmith +48.40 in profit, lindsell train global equity+47,22 in profit, legal&general international index 42.72% in profit
of course it depends when you bought them, can i just point out though before the inflation worries these were all around 70% in profit and i have just been watching the profits they built up being taken away from me again, one thing that's different about the shares is they can't take the dividends back off you if that makes any sense ?
but l&g international index a good recommendation i think with low ongoing charges and maybe a good time to buy
but I'm no expert, and always welcome tips from others

I know the last results here were poor, but after they announced they were going to increase the premiums by 15% to account for inflation costs, and seeing this rising so well lately, it was a bit of a shock and disappointment to hear they were cutting the dividends due to bad weather claims, not going to sell at these prices as i think it will be worth giving it a chance to recover, if and when that happens will definitely be reducing my holding here and possibly add to my lgen or Aviva shares, i have lost confidence in this company now, but everyone has there own opinions on it

cheers Bubble, as this is my largest holding in my portfolio, more fool me perhaps as it's not been very rewarding with regards to dividend or growth, did i say growth it's nice just to break even here again
biggest problem with the banks is they are the first to drop whenever the economy sufferer and the last to recover
for instance my lgen share paid full dividend all through the Pandemic and recovered very quickly after
fingers crossed though mate that we will eventually get rewarded here, and apologise to others for going off topic from Politics lol

Cheers guys, this has to be one of the most frustrating shares, gets to around 50p then drops back down, have held for years so may as well keep holding for 60p or more to make it worthwhile
