Andy, quite enjoy a good moan myself sometimes, with hindsight i could have sold all my lgen shares a year ago for over £3 and bought them back for a lot less, but maybe it won't work like that this year, just my opinion i think you could do a lot worse than having this as part of your portfolio

ANDY, i don't know how many years you have been investing for ? but in general they will say be prepared to stay invested in a share for 5 years, the big problem there is they don't tell you which 5 years, i remember investing in hsbc bank a long time ago where you invested a lump sum for 5 years and guaranteed to get back your original investment, 5 years later i doubled my money, so impressed i put my original investment back in only this time 5 years later it didn't make a penny, well we haven't had a good 5 years recently with Brexit the pandemic the war inflation etc, but there has been buying opportunity's, maybe the next 5 years will be those good ones ? it can be disappointing sometimes you have to be patient, easier said than done sometimes i know, i get what your saying about the interest rates if only we had a crystal ball

Hi Dan, not sure what's making a killing at the moment, but for myself my Aviva shares are doing well lgen are in profit but definitely could be doing a lot better, Lloyds are in profit after years of being in the red and seem to be improving and all of my funds are making gains, my two biggest under performers right now are dlg and vod, don't get me wrong i am well aware everything can change in an instant like my dlg shares they were back in profit then out comes some more bad news and down she goes again, some others on here will know what I'm saying there, not suggesting anyone should sell any vod shares at this current low price, but unless you have a good reason to think it's going to get a good report/boost anytime soon i would tread with caution with it, for how many years now have we heard this being called under valued ?
you know i wish you well and hope this is back up over a £1 very soon so will keep my fingers crossed for that

Dan, If you are already heavily invested here, why would you want to invest more ?, this has not made any improvement in the last 6 years, that might change of course, but do you have any valid reason to think this is going to get a big boost any time soon, as i haven't seen any positive reports come through yet and this is a very competitive market, not about being negative or positive mate, but just feel there are better options out there, but saying that i will be very pleased if it does start flying, I'm sure there are plenty here that disagree with me, so will be interesting to hear your reasons ?
but best of luck all, we are all hoping to get a good return here but it's a bit like trying to get blood from a stone at the moment

I'm definitely no expert, but as i was saying before i think a balanced portfolio is the best thing for lessening the risks as even the best of them can disappoint on times , i expect lgen will come back good again as it always does , but have to agree it has been suffering since the truss I'm going to hit the ground running rubbish, and when inflation is back under control i think some of the international funds may start making good gains again, might be worth putting a few in the mix, only my opinion of course not a recommendation, Zac can i ask you which have been your best previous performers

zac0_4, I'm with you on that one, i do like dividend shares and i can use the dividends either for topping up my pension or i just pool all the dividends together for topping up elsewhere, i wouldn't know how to pick a growth stock as it would probably drop over a cliffs edge as soon as i bought in, so for that purpose i have 5 funds mostly international and 1 investment trust

MRMath, if those shares you mention are working well then that's great and good luck with that, but it's when they go down it's a problem especially if you have a large part of your portfolio invested in them, my dlg shares have taken a nasty turn for the worse and dividend cut and my largest share Lloyds has been down in the red for quite a few years and with no dividend for a lot of that time, its only the last few weeks they have come back into profit, don't get me wrong i am a great fan of lgen and it's my second largest share and consider it one of my most reliable, and also Aviva is one of my highest earners, i also have a few other shares in the red such as Vodafone, just saying having a balanced portfolio and not risking too much in any single share is a much safer option, especially in bad times, but best of luck with whatever is working for you

Hi fleccy, where's the risk? well let me think back over the last 5 years, this has gone from bad to worse definitely not seen any capital gains here have you, ok i know you will say you have had a good dividend income here, but you can get that elsewhere without loss of capital ? currently 91.18 and it could get even worse, sorry mate but i think there's better places to invest than this share and if the dividend is cut it could be a long journey getting back over a £1, even Lloyds is looking good right now

One thing i have learnt especially in the last year, is not to put too big a percentage of your portfolio into any one share of fund come to that, it's been survival of the fittest with my shares with the sp and dividends , even the ones you think are rock solid can disappoint

A very high risk putting too much of your hard earned money into this disappointing share i think, definitely wouldn't want to risk too much here, seems like Mikey has been right all along, sorry but think there's better places to put your money, a possible dividend cut here would push this back even more

Trading Announcement 1st feb will it be a good result or bad? Come on Vodafone get your act together, and hopefully we can prove Gary wrong, well Lloyds is finally going strong hopefully Vodafone can follow

Cheers TROTSKY, you need to be an insurance expert to understand this lot, still the Markets seemed to like it today, lets hope it can continue upwards

When the going gets tough, you find out which of your shares are the weakest links, so far this has been dlg and vod for me, anyone else found the same

But doesn't this also mean less profit for dlg ?

I have to admit i was one of those doom & gloomers, being a long term holder of this share i had every reason to be one. But moving on this has been doing very well the last few months, let's now hope this share has turned around and can continue this upward trend
