Soton, thanks for the warning, but he's a big softy really lol, just struggling with the positivity while this is under a pound, i have seen what's happened to directline since they cut the dividend it's now down around a third, despite what mole-man says i hope we don't go in that direction
just hope we can get above a £1 as soon as possible, let's hope something good can happen here for a change

Andy, I'm not sure you understand how dividend shares work, successful established company's that have pretty much reached their growth potential offer a good dividend as incentive to keep share holders invested, around 8% dividend yield is better than you will get in a savings account, and there has been plenty of opportunity's to improve by buying on dips around 220 or if you don't want to hold long term wait until this goes back to £3 and sell, not suggesting you put all your money into one share that's never a good idea, maybe consider funds for growth which are less risk than individual shares, but be aware these are difficult times at the moment and picking a growth share that actually grows is not as easy as you think, you are just as likely to lose money from shares as i have found out with directline now 30% down and dividend cut, but be careful or you may find out the hard way just how easy it is to lose money on shares, it's your choice of course

Lot's of talk about rockets here, it's more like a sinking canal boat at the moment, but hope you are right, a good new CEO might help, can't do any more damage than the last one ?

some holders like 2 times dividend, gives them an opportunity for topping up on the dips or sell high before exdiv, but expect most would prefer 4 times if it was on offer, but best thing of all is being invested in a share that still pays out dividends in difficult times, that way you are still getting an income from them while waiting for the share price to recover, still rate this as one of the better shares in my portfolio along with Aviva

dibbieboy1, RE:voda moaners, not many shares are making big profits right now, as dan pointed out with tui, as we are in very troubled times, we are all caught in the stock market trap at the moment, most share prices have dropped so the choices are sell up at a loss or just wait it out until hopefully things improve, the reality is nobody knows what's going to happen next bank crisis etc, my direct line shares for instance have dropped by around a third since they announced a drop in profits and cut the dividend even though they previously said the dividend is safe, could the same happen here i don't know?, hopefully this will be back over a pound again but when is anyone's guess, maybe we will see and end to inflation/interest rises and putins war sometime soon, we are well overdue some good news

Dan Re: they need to find a buyer, surely the reason they need to sell off parts of the business is because the management is not capable of managing it efficiently themselves ? good management is crucial to the success of any business, so let's hope they can do that more successfully from here onwards, we need to see a new ceo with a recovery plan , positive thinking is good but we need a bit more than that to get the share price moving up
but of course there's a lot more going on at the moment, inflation interest rates, the war banking crisis, so expecting a long wait for that 130 ish, hopefully we will see this north of £1 soon as most shares seem to be suffering at the moment

you could do far worse than investing here imho, dlg for example, most shares are under valued at the moment, just collect the generous dividend whilst you wait for it to get back to £3 then choose sell or hold
andy do everyone a favour sell up and go away, maybe you will find a better place to invest your money or maybe not ?

Hi trek, getting all that stuff to work in your favour takes a lot of time and skill, so well done for that, when i buy it drops and when i sell it goes up, to be fair though it does work ok for me sometimes but not always, with hindsight i could have sold several of my shares last year such as dlg and lgen and vod and more recently lloyds when they were back in profit and bought them back for a lot less, really thought 2023 might have been the turning point but it seems not, maybe i need to try another strategy instead of buy and hold

Trek, thanks for that information always good to get new ideas and diversify, Dec is one I'm about to invest in, but of course it's a recovery stock hopefully what Vodafone will be from this current price, one point i was trying to make though to some posters is the majority of the stock market is doing badly at the moment not only Vodafone, for instance had you bought dec back in July you would be feeling a bit sad about it now, biggest concern for me though if vod sp doesn't start recovering then a possible dividend cut, hopefully a recovery is not too far away

The only no brainer at the moment, is open a savings account at least you can't lose money that way, what a rotten week, everything has taken a battering, hope next week is better. does anyone have any shares that are making money at the moment? if so please let me know what they are

as much as i would like to stay positive, Its very difficult when the share price is still below a pound ? i don't take any notice of Porsche as we all know he goes around all the boards when any shares take a hit, but you can't deny what's happened here in the last six years you only have to look at the charts, can a new ceo turn this company around I'm not sure, but hoping this will move out of the pound shop soon, would be nice to see some gains here before the next results

Hawthorn1000, it does make you wonder as dlg announced some time ago that they were increasing their premiums by 15% yet the company seems to be in a mess
don't know how Lloyds insurance can do that, but not going to argue about it

just had my car insurance renewal from Lloyds bank and it's only gone up £1 from last year, was pleasantly surprised was expecting a big increase, very disappointing share this guys over 30% in loss and can see it dropping a bit more as there's no upcoming dividend, just hope i will come back in profit at some time, so i can sell this rubbish share off,
this has been survival of the fittest with my dividend shares, so far aviva and lgen have been the strongest for me

Paul, it was a shambles mate, broken promises about the dividend and excuses about the bad weather that is only to be expected in this country, have no confidence here right now, but hope the results are not as bad as I'm expecting

soton, I was thinking if it would be the same as what happened to Tesco and Aviva when they sold off part of their business, and they returned cash to share holders but you then ended up with less shares, which meant you was no worse off but no better off either, not sure if that could happen with Vodafone ?
