Andy, i have to say there are most definitely no guarantees that you will make a profit from any shares, you will get good years and bad years, and we have had more than our fair share of bad years lately, just be careful you don't get your fingers burnt as most of us have experienced at some time, but i wish you good luck what ever you go for

That's why there's so many mixed feelings here

Andy, i think everyone has probably given up trying to convince you this is why i assumed you would be selling before exdiv, but that's your choice, this is basically a very good reliable income paying share not a growth share, but you can add value to your capital value as well
It's very unlikely you or anyone else would have bought in at the bottom price, so you could as you know lower your average by adding at a lower price than you first paid, that would increase your dividend yield and add value when the share price rises again or reinvest dividends, if the share price rises to say £3 in maybe a years time, you could then choose to sell or hold, I wouldn't suggest anyone should put all there money into one share, but i think most people would agree this is a good share to have as part of a portfolio along with others and maybe some international funds or trusts as well

ANDY, your obviously disappointed with the performance of this share and probably always would be, so i take it you are selling up before exdiv, good luck with your next investment

Hi Gary, not getting at anyone in particular, but just saying it would be good to hear dan's and everyone else's genuine opinions on this share instead of everyone just calling each other idiots, maybe investing here under a £1 will be a good thing, but what does everyone think about next months results good or bad? and how secure is the dividend and no CEO yet appointed, 3 deal not confirmed, so does anyone really know if this is going up or down, long term it could turn out good, but think everyone would like to see this over a £1 as soon as possible

Dan the share price here is awful at the moment, we all know that and all longer term holders have lost quite a bit of money here, it's good to hear other share holders opinions of the past and the future whether they are good or bad, and i think people would be interested in hearing your genuine opinion of where this is going from here short and long term rather than just insulting anyone you disagree with , come on mate we are all trying to make some money out of the stock market and genuine opinions is what we want no matter what they , and we can all do without ping pong insults

Nicknaim and bald eagle, i think you both have some good points there, I don't worry too much about this share when the share price drops as I'm always pretty confident that it will come back again, but also agree with bald_eagle as i always try to top up below my average, that way you will be in the blue more often than your in the red and also increasing your dividend yield, lgen and aviva are two shares i own that are nearly always in credit and that's a good feeling, but i also have some other shares in the red, and most definitely not such a good feeling with them ones knowing that you've lost more on the capital than receiving from the dividends

There's certainly a lot of mixed feeling about which direction this will go from here, if your that convinced that it's going down then it might be a good idea to sell before may results, for myself i hold this in my Sipp and don't need to sell anytime soon, if it does go down and or dividend cut it will be a bit disappointing, but would rather just wait it out than sell at this current price, more fool me perhaps but don't think anyone knows where this will be at in the near future ?
not sure what others here are planning to do, a little moan does help sometimes -:)

Scaredycat, i don't want to add to the moaning today, but thing you can rely is Vodafone never exceeds expectations, but would be nice to see this get over a £1 again

Zac, i have noticed that my funds are starting to grow again the last few weeks, will hold onto my best shares such as lgen/aviva, but will be selling some of the dissapointing ones when the time is right and gradually putting more back into funds again, hopefully in the not to distant future we will get some growth years again

Hi gutter, well good luck trying to predict where things will be in a few months time, we are living in a crazy world at the moment, some people prefer to drip feed or add in a few stages rather than trying to find the bottom, and maybe it's already got there, who knows

Hi sidi, none of my shares have reached there previous highs this year, with inflation still rising and a possible interest rise again, I'm just grateful they are still paying full dividends at the moment, well apart from my dlg shares that have cut them, i expect we will have to wait some time for growth on capital, hope things are doing better with you ?

Biggest problems Mikey is we are caught in a trap as Elvis would say, price too low to sell so we just have to hope something good will happen here

Andy I'm not sure anyone has called this a growth share but it's been in the 280-300 range before and with inflation over 10% why shouldn't it get there again?, it's obviously not going to get there this month, but these are difficult times at the moment, you also need a bit of luck on your side when investing in the stock market as you can get a good five years and a bad one, for instance i used to have eleven funds and for the first five years there was no stopping them growing then came the war and inflation and i was watching the profits my funds made draining away week by week, that's when i realized i needed to sell off 6 of my funds and buy more dividend shares which could provide income in difficult times, ok it didn't go perfectly well as my dlg shares have gone down and also vod shares, when inflation drops we may get a reversal and will put more back into funds as i have already started to do
just my opinion of course and i most definitely don't get it all right

Always optimistic here, i don't mean by this ex, but it will come back eventually, in the meantime will just collect the dividends
