"Irrigation on tap benefits winemakers in France

French winemakers will be able to water their vineyards with a tap of their smartphones thanks to a technology group listed on Aim, London’s junior market.

MTI Wireless Edge, an Israeli manufacturer of antennas that works with Nokia on its 5G network, has signed up 200 vintners in France to use a new wireless irrigation system, called Tethys.

Until recently, irrigation of French vineyards was forbidden or strictly controlled but climate change has forced the authorities to ease restrictions in recent years.

Water to most vineyards in southern France is supplied by local water associations through a network of pressurised pipelines designed in the 1960s, although these can easily be overloaded if too many farmers water their crops at the same time.

To solve this problem, MTI’s Mottech division has created a phone app that allocates a specific time slot when the winemakers can turn on their water supply. The app also lets them select how much water they want sprayed over their fields.

At present, the Tethys system covers about 4,000 hectares of vineyards, although MTI bosses believe that there is potential for this to be extended to 200,000 hectares over the next year or two.

“Mottech’s new Tethys system in the world that enables vineyards to choose in advance the exact time, date and amount of water to be supplied,” Moni Borovitz, the chief executive of MTI, said. “All of this is placing Mottech in a good position to expand its services at a time when climate change is like to force a further softening of irrigation restrictions in France.”

H1 revenues were up 55% despite COVID, and there's well over £2m net cash now. Plus confidence from the CEO, particularly as regards "new contract announcements" this year:

Plans for significant preparation and clearing works designed to allow for the development of 120 acres of land at the former steelworks in Redcar have been submitted.

The work – proposed by the South Tees Development Corporation – would be carried out on land that was secured by mayor Ben Houchen last year following a landmark deal with Tata Steel Europe.

This resulted in the organisation acquiring 1,420 acres of land.

The application would allow for comprehensive remediation of the land and ground engineering works to be carried out, with the contract being awarded to Hartlepool-based Seymour Civil Engineering.

Separately, a prior approval application has also been submitted for a number of small buildings on the Prairie. This would lead to the first major demolition work on the site since the land was secured.

Houchen said: "This is another crucial step in redeveloping this huge area and getting the diggers to work, spades in the ground and clearing up the former steelworks site as quickly as possible.

"This latest work will mean we can get the new investment on to the site and we can get on with creating good quality, high-skilled local jobs for local people which I have promised to the people of Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool as part of my recovery plan.

Cllr Mary Lanigan, leader of Redcar & Cleveland Council and South Tees Development Corporation Board member, added: "The progress now being made on-site is fantastic to see.

"After only a matter of weeks, we have planning applications in for a new roundabout and improved access to the site, although these are, of course, subject to approvals.

"Now we're pushing to get the first pockets of land ready for investment."

You can only buy a maximum 20k at 67.8p, but you can sell 35k at 65.88p - almost the mid-price.

With a little push we could be in for interesting times here.

Good to see RNS'd confirmation of decent director participation in the placing, particularly from the CEO and (encouragingly) the CFO Laura Denner, to whom £60,000 of post-tax income is I suspect quite a large sum:

Another move up - and the official spread is down to a much more pleasant 3p at 65p-68p. That, plus sellers achieving a nice premium over the bid, is encouraging.

Good early buying. Most importantly, the share price has moved up and the buy price has increased nicely from 62.1p to 66p now, so hopefully this is a sign that the long-standing overhang has come to an end.

Five buy trades at 25p totalling 41,000 shares were reported in the last minute of trading yesterday, pushing up the price nicely, and a mere £270 buy this morning has ticked the price up again. Stock must be rather scarce....

As well as the very good numbers, the rather bullish outlook statement gives you an indication of how rosy things are looking going forward.

And CAPD have taken note of my nudge in including an entire paragraph on the rise in listed/unlisted investment values :o))

The listed investments have increased by $5.2m in H1 alone, bringing the total investment value to $17.7m - around 17% of the m/cap.

Great to see non-drilling revenues doubling year on year and now 11% in total.

On a single-digit P/E - even before taking the huge asset backing/net cash into account - there should be significant upside from here imho.

Cheers. The real spread at present is 31.4p-33.6p per today's trades, so a lot better/narrower than the supposed published spread. I very much doubt if it'll narrow if anything or at all from that!

Fortunately the share price tends to react quite quickly to volume trading - both up and down as we've seen recently! Since MWE is imo a company on the up, and with a low free float, hopefully any decent news will see the share price back up to 40p and hopefully much higher in the next year.
