Why do tariffs work? When trade is unfair and one country is dominating (China) then they level the playing field. If a price is higher for a particular item, it may even make it viable to produce in your own country again, which brings the additional benefits of jobs and taxes to that country at the expense of lost sales to the exporting nation.
