The UK and Germany has the highest proportion of renewables in the major economies. They also suffer the highest domestic energy prices in the entire world. This is not a coincidence. Cheap oil, gas and coal is plentiful. Installing renewable infrastructure certainly isn't

I've said it many times before. Let's have a green grid and a fossils grid and each go our own ways. But you're not using our grid when yours isn't getting any power.

We will be using gas and oil for many years to come. They tried electric cars many times over the ages and they've never worked. The same is true now, they simply aren't viable as transport for the common man (Model T, VW Beetle, Mini etc)

China is massively reliant on coal, the majority of which it imports. For energy security reasons, it makes sense for them to diversify domestic supply from coal to something else. That is exactly the reason the UK shouldn't be reliant on foreign gas for the vast majority of its power use (but is)

When you take into account heating and transport, gas & oil is absolutely critical to the UK. We have enough around our island and under our feet to last many hundreds of years, but ideological dogma and politics ($cience) is preventing us from tapping our natural resources

The result is eye-wateringly expensive "clean" energy that will drive people into poverty and businesses into bankruptcy.

There is nothing to be gained by being the first Lemming off the cliff edge.

And if your answer is backup gas then please further explain

1. How maintaining multiple energy sources and systems is efficient

2. Why we are refusing to extract our own gas and oil against a geopolitical backdrop that could realistically see both the US and Russia sanction us from purchasing their oil.

Yes I did, for the obvious reason that it illustrates that we cannot depend on the sun and wind because they are intermittent and we cannot guarantee when they will be any use. Forget heating for a moment, 31m homes have a gas heating system and at least 30m have virtually no savings, so how can they keep warm without gas?

But that aside, prey do tell (without the ludicrous assumption that sufficient battery power will appear just in the nick of time) how do we power our country when that intermittent power is not generating anything, or not generating its designated share?

Let's hope so, the world is a crazy place when calling a moron a moron lands you with a multi million dollar settlement.

Saw it with my own eyes on the national grid website. Just as numbnuts has picked a windy day to crow we can get 60% renewables, I can choose days when it is neither sunny nor windy. And we have plenty of those

So what do we do without gas? Just wait for the sun or wind to come along and pause life/business until it does?

12:40 today: renewables producing over 60% of above average demand. Cost per mwh about £45, less than 70g/mwh co2.

And in the first week in January that was consistently about 3% at best. So how do we get the other 97% of our power you complete and utter MORON!!!!!

And my leccy bill is enormous, 4x what the Yanks pay. So how can our electricity be cheap?
