It is worth re-posting CEPI's mention of Scancell in one of their articles some time ago.

Maybe Diggle now thinks that more frequent bite size chunks is a better way of getting the message across about his keenness for Scancell.

It would be nice if Scancell were to treat us all to a meal. It would save rats having to bring jaffa cakes :-)

This is pure speculation

It was Richard Goodfellow who once said that pharma were impressed with Lindy's presentations of the Scancell science. After all it is actually her science.
Perhaps the major investors thought that Lindy would be a much better person to guide Scancell through a period where talks with pharma are likely to pick up and maybe in a big way.
She knows the worth of her science and is quite likely to turn down deals that don't come near that worth.

If we go back to the time when CH declared that a deal on a glycans mAb was imminent. Perhaps Lindy was not happy with the size of that deal. Some time later RM came along with their cash and indications were that Lindy was very keen to secure that extra money. One of the reasons was that she was keen was to perform more research on Avidimab (which she considers unique) and the glycans mAbs to add value. Maybe CH wanted to continue to secure that deal and Lindy was dead against it in view of the cash she now had to further develop the science.

It would be interesting to know if Scancell are currently working on the enhanced SCIB2 to get it trial ready.

Perhaps SCIB2 may also come into the equation if Covidity proves promising enough to lead to a deal. Lindy may decide this is better for the next Immunobody trial since potentially it can target a range of cancers.

From memory I don't think scope of the trial being planned by CRUK was ever finalised.

The delaying of the decision about the SCIB1v trial until H1 2022 is significant.
It probably means that they are waiting until there is data on the Covidity trial.
As TF says, Covidity hopefully gives further validation of the Immunobody platform and thereby raises the platform's profile. In turn this would make recruitment for a revised trial easier. The revised iSCIB1+ gives
a) full range of HLA types
b) added potency by virtue of Avidimab (hopefully already seen in pre-clinical research)
c) a new delivery method (again hopefully more effective than the Ichor device - I don't think anyone will be sorry to see Ichor go)
d) extended life of patent

Totally agree with your summary of the SCIB1 trial, Bermuda.

It's definitely the same Scancell i.e. a company working on multiple projects all showing great promise.
The difference is that now Scancell can accelerate clinical trials without immediate risk of running out of money.

So
1) The covidity trial is now underway in a more ambitious way to the Scancell pre RM money could afford. Lindy will wait until she has definite evidence of high levels of Antibodies and memory TCells in a significant number of patients before looking to deal. She will also obviously be keen to provide evidence of no serious side effects
2) The much awaited MODi1 trial is due to start soon. I wonder how the market will react to good TCell responses to the 4 indications.
3) the stalled SCIB1 trial could possibly be re-jigged to make recruitment much more possible
4) more extensive pre-clinical work is being performed on the glycans mAbs and Avidimab with the possibility of clinical trials perhaps with partners or perhaps not

So the extra money makes the above possible and more besides. Meanwhile Lindy will keep quiet on any possible deals unlike some CEOs.

Have a look at the graph of average buyouts by phase towards the end of the article. The data is obviously skewed by mega deals such as the buyouts of Juno or Kite but the article does support Lindy's strategy of producing phase 1 and/or Phase 2 data and then dealing.

IMO it all fits in with Lindy's plan of not letting any of her products being licenced on the cheap. For the first time she finds herself with the money to prove her products in the clinic. A product that is clinically proven in P1/2 trials is worth far more than a pre-clinical product.
So, although her plan may be detrimental to the SP in the short term, she has the confidence and now the money to execute her plan as she wants to.
Some may think that she should go all out for pre-clinical deals. Others may consider that Lindy has the correct strategy. IMO Lindy has it right :-)

I suspect the mantra of "great science leads to great data leads to great deals" is from Lindy, even though it became CH's much used statement.
It shows a confidence in the quality of the science.
So again I suspect Lindy will be awaiting some good phase 1 data including good levels of memory T Cells for both S and N epitopes before committing to a deal.
So the more patients who show good levels of the memory cells, the better.

30 is a number that is often cited as a minimum sample size before realistic conclusions can be deduced.

I believe that Scancell have had several recent enquiries from Premier league football managers.

It does show confidence and, regardless of whether deals are struck on existing products in the clinic, Scancell would still require the lab for products currently in development e.g. Modi2 and also future products.
That might also be the case if Scancell were bought outright by a big pharma. Scancell may be allowed to just continue to develop new products in the same way with the big pharma helping out where needed e.g. the running the phase 3 trials of which they have greater experience,

To be clear the new facility is for supporting the development and clinical trial phases of a product's journey. The pure research facilities remain at the Nottingham Biodiscovery Centre.
