Had a late night watching the tennis so not bought or sold anything but am interested in the main cup poster on advfn spotting a link between cupid and roomwise, a hotel room booking agency which must offer a decent revenue stream. I spoke about open doors days in Scotland last night which involves all 4 or 5 weekends in September with different regions taking place each week when I will often have a couple of weekends away as there is a public holiday up here in Scotland for many towns in September. Due to crucial stage in schooling for one of my kids, I have done less this year but usually still go away for the two May holidays, Easter and September holiday weekends and a few others. Never used roomwise but have used 2 of their rivals. I've had a problem with a direct booking as well as an agency. Via an agency turned up for a booking and was told the place was full. We had been dining close by and fortunately one of us was sober enough to drive home and fortunately that was only an hour or so away. That said turned up to a direct booking very late one night with kids after a theatre show to find the place in darkness and had changed hands. Big best western nearby was full due to a wedding but they were good enough to phone round and got us somewhere close by.
LOL Nice connection between on line dating and room bookings. Most interesting experience was another direct booking made on the phone. Due to past experience, I sought confirmation from the guy via email a few weeks down the line. He said he had no record of my booking and was rather abrupt. I thought he had taken money from the highest bidder as it was May bank holiday. Gave the guy a piece of my mind and he gave as good as he got and then he told me nobody would be staying at the hotel that weekend as he was terminally ill. We got involved in quite a bit of correspondence thereafter and I eventually had to tell him I was not a trained counsellor. Passed the hotel a few months thereafter and the hotel was pretty lively. Maybe it had changed hands again as it was the same hotel which had changed hands before which I wanted to give a second chance to.
I'm away to check on this roomwise for our weekends away next month. I usually go abroad for a week in October but the kids' passports have expired and, if I wait a few months, I can get my son a 10 year adult passport rather than the kids' 5 year one. So a UK holiday on the cards for October this year and I'll give this roomwise a check. ATB
