It’s taken a while to get a decent AN version to Porton Down so I think we’re a few more months away. Assuming they’re successful and it becomes the dominant beast PresAl suggested then the suggested longevity could mean that the collaborative version ends up bringing in greater revenues overall. You can easily see if being the global test of choice for flying for example as it ticks every possible box, PCR accuracy on the day of travel and full certainty for getting on the plane

Be careful what you wish for, if we’d had a revelation that the previous incarnation had failed it wouldn’t have been so much fun. That said, the switch to AN tanked the share price back to a quid and we guessed dribble had failed so perhaps it wouldn’t have made a difference. An excellent post Tom. I think you’re spot on regarding timeframes, there’s still some leeway due to lockdown and due to stockpiles of Innova and the other stop gap Surescreen coming online. There’s less risk with those being used in the first steps of easing lockdown as they can be fully supervised in those circumstances. The real game changer steps up when society needs fully reopening. As you’ve said, it can be used aggressively to initially reduce the r value and then used for effective track and tracing. At that point you need the AN sampling method for ease of use and an app can be introduced to confidently open up hospitality. Other countries have eliminated Covid by strict controls, but that only lasts as long as border controls remain effective. The U.K. are now highly likely to be the first to demonstrate that it’s possible to control it with rapid testing in combination with a vaccine roll out.

If the plan for venues is selling ticket & test packages that’ll be done in advance, then I can’t see why it’d be different for anything else. The question is then how do you stop the covidiots? Who knows, perhaps testing centres can fill up some of the empty shops, pop in during the day to get your supervised test and pass for 24 hours.
