An average 15 mins is pretty much what we originally expected, only the Huff Post changed expectations and it’s good that it has been confirmed by the company. It’s still half the time of Innova and ultimately if you’re testing at home, what difference does it make?

I thought it was a great read, nice and lengthy which highlights the massive amount of progress on all fronts. Nice to see confirmation that the pie chart drawing condor team have have completely useless as we thought. Otherwise, all as you were. I couldn’t care less about the 5/10/20 timings on the test as long as it ends up the best.

But there won’t be any more restrictions, it’s a one way street apparently.

Ready test go... strange for them to say it’s high on the govt agenda and for a strap line to be readied for no good reason. There is a long list of govt LFD testing that is planned and this will at some point be rolled out to businesses for employees and beyond for the public to buy ticket and test packages. Hundreds of millions of LFD tests. With no idea how long immunity lasts, with new variants emerging, other countries lagging behind and a need to open up borders, testing simply has to continue in huge numbers. Oh, and everything on that list will be the same the world over. Note the phrase broad commercialisation in the RNS. The intention isn’t to supply one govt only. Good for you, PresAl.

I don’t get the point of vaccines passports in any circumstances.

It’s the usual govt approach, start warming people up to the idea gently...

Perhaps we can convince Paul Waugh to write a range of articles and by a process of RNS re:press elimination we can find out once and for all what the feck is going on.

Great news, I've been worried about my camel. It's a brain tickler that takes twice the time of a 5 min LFD, requires a device and is many months away. Now you've got your coat, shut the door behind you....

The recent mutations came from places that had high rates initially. India don’t have anywhere near enough vaccines so there is a greater risk of further mutations emerging from there

It’s typically vague, if they have the full data they can chuck it in, if not they can say they’ve already provided some via the evaluation data. If it’s not in there, it won’t be far behind

You can see by the changing suggested sample types on the various tenders that the govt have been making it up as they go along. They probably gave some poor feedback based on their ropey defrosted spiked samples and PresAl would have known fine well what the analytical performance was from their own development. It wouldn’t be a shock if he just thought b0ll0cks to this and sorted out his own validation. He probably thought that the guaranteed U.K. market might not come through so it is a faster route elsewhere and doesn’t rule us out of the U.K. once the results are known. I can’t see the govt being able to ignore it if it’s the gold standard, it would be farcical for it to be sold elsewhere first

I completely agree, the current publicly advertised plan is vaccines and then suck up any deaths. I’m not convinced that relying on a reduction in infections during the spring in to summer when they’ll be falling anyway will paint any kind of realistic picture. It’s a great picture to paint to encourage take up of the vaccine though... if you all behave you’ll be allowed down the pub. Underlying that are those that can’t or won’t take it and the real likelihood of strains emerging. It can’t be a one way street as suggested because if a new variant gets a grip, especially in winter, they can’t possibly adapt the vaccine and roll it out fast enough. Track and trace has to work effectively. Testing is absolutely essential.

163. As regular testing will have a key role to play in future, the Government is working to
establish an effective private market for tests. Providers must meet a regulatory
framework so that the public can have confidence in these tests and the Government
will set up new validation processes for new tests to the private market.

164. In time, it is possible that testing becomes a viable alternative to self-isolation for
contacts of infected people. The emergence of new variants has meant this is not yet
feasible, but the testing programme is being primed to deliver this when the time is
right. The evaluation, which has thus far involved around 12,000 people across 21
organisations and 180 sites, will be expanded in the coming months and include a
large-scale programme with schools.
