Angelis: It was always the case that Carnarvon was going to take the rig away to another location as soon as this job was done, and assuming that they found commercial oil they would leave the wellhead in place with a view to retuning in about 18 months or so to start production. So Carnavan "walking away" at this point is basically what was going to happen anyway, regardless of the volume of the oil down there.
The difference is that Caranarvan have basically said that they are done with Buffalo, so that means that they won't be coming back to it to do any production. But if the well is commercial, albeit at a much smaller level, there is no reason why ADV could not turn it into production with another operating partner, or sell the rights to another operator.
