Ahead of next week's monetary policy update a top fund manager says Andrew Bailey will backtrack on his dire recession comments, producing a 'relatively improved outlook'.

Toscafund chief economist Savvas Savouri said: 'The BoE's grossly exaggerated expectations for UK unemployment and inflation contributed in no small way to the dire GDP forecasts it published in the Monetary Policy Reports of August and November 2022.

Philip Shaw chief economist at Investec says Bailey will paint a far less gloomy picture and in fact perform a dramatic u-turn.

Yes even the tone of the Sky piece is positive. It’s a great move, very high calibre appointment and with ASOS confident of a great H2 with their upbeat update earlier this month, you can see why there was yet another broker upgrade today

The SocGen RAISES Asos price target to 1,180 pence - and places a 'buy' rating on the stock.

This is still exceedingly cheap and I think many now realise a takeover bid could come quickly at this price.

At the 0830 press call, many business reporters asked about the possibility of a takeover bid and all the board could say was they would be ‘braced’ for any bid!

This morning RBC raises Asos price target to 950 (825) pence - 'sector perform'

This follows on from Bank of America raising target on Asos a few days ago to a buy and price target £10

Why on earth would you be short on this moving forward.

I think it speaks volumes that some posters go to great lengths to find some obscure negative line on boohoo when we all know that just last Friday we had:

Bank of America raises boohoo to 'buy' (neutral) - price target 75 (53) pence

SocGen raises boohoo price target to 49 (38) pence - 'hold'

Jefferies cuts price target to 85 (100) pence - 'buy'

Makes me certain of an incoming takeover bid, for sure, even after the recent slight uplift in share price

Online fashion retailers Asos and Boohoo jumped 11.1% and 8.5%, respectively, after BofA Global Research said it was a buyer of the stocks, and noting the sector is trading at "undemanding" valuations.

That huge short taken out by GAM fairly recently, they must be well underwater on that one. What on earth were they thinking!

This is great news. Shorters closing and analysts being positive, big players re-rating this to a buy.

For this to be up nearly 9 PER CENT on the day of doom and gloom retail sales news, even news all over the bbc that online sales fell 2.9 per cent in December, just shows that this really is back on the up.
