The General Meeting notice that I got, listed only one Resolution to be considered today in respect to the placing. I expect that we will get the RNS later only confirming that this was passed .
A couple of hours delay is nothing given the number of years we have waiting for news; then the ball is in Acumen’s court until next week.
Great to hear there are no ‘potential famines’ on the horizon; the last one in 1847 was catastrophic !
Highly unlikely that McHugh would vote against the government in a no confidence motion.
Manyana: the govt will not change in 2 years - only the rotating Taoiseach/Tánaiste when Martin and Veradkar switch places. I presume either could replace ministers from their own parties, but the cannot move the Greens who have signed up for the full 5 year programme for government.
You make a good point SirNig\W; however, I don't think there is an equivalence between spontaneous demonstrations against yet another unnecessary black death at the hands of police and the deliberate actions of the most powerful man in America designed to promote his re-election over the safety and welfare of his supporters, many of whom did not turn up. I cannot think of another president who would not use such an occasion to promote peace and goodwill in the current climate; Trump used the occasion to sow dissension, labelling the protestors as 'unhinged left wing agitators', this the same guy who would not condemn the nazi style right wing mobs last year and found 'some good people' among them!
SirNige\W:
The Trump appointed medical Pandemic Task Force recommended against having this meeting days after there was a spike in cases in Oka; he also sought a waiver against claims from attendees in case they caught the virus. He previously encouraged people to attend churches (being such an exemplary Christian character, Stormy Daniels and others excepted) – this also resulted in spikes in those Republican states. To my mind 18,000 people in an enclosed arena for a rally is not an ‘essential’ event other than to play to his supporters for base and dangerous political purposes. It is now on the record that had he heeded the medical evidence and accelerated lockdown by 2 weeks he would have saved 40,000 lives. This guy is playing politics with peoples lives!
Be careful what you wish for! I agree that we should exploit our own resources until we get viable and economic alternative sources of energy, but remember that Sinn Fein supported the Brid Smith bill to ban exploration, so their assumption of power would not address the PVR issue. In addition, their economic higher tax policies are incompatible with a fiscal regime that has been very successful at attracting FDI with well paid jobs which provide a strong stream of revenue for govt. In the current pandemic, SF have sought to increase all the subsidies being offered to workers and object to a reduction in the ridiculous situation where many are getting €350 per week who were on much lower salaries. It is easy to be populist when you are in opposition; you don't have to make hard choices.
Manyana: I do remember the Lynch and McCreevy eras and lived through the Celtic Tiger period.
However, the "idiots" (electorate) in recent elections have produced inconclusive results with a very diverse range of views and policies which have to be reflected in the next programme for government. Like it or not, there has been a growth in support for Green Party policies to address climate change issues at a pace with which I don't agree, but have to be accommodated, hopefully in some moderated form.
If you think that the current negotiating parties, who are there at the behest of the electorate and 'could create another disaster' reflect on the views of alternative groupings which are left of centre and where their policies might lead us if they get to run the country....
I am a shareholder who attended the EGM in Dublin and met the concert party who were very polished and exuded wealth and I was therefore very surprised that they pledged Petrel shares, subject to lock in period to support a loan. It is concerning that the inappropriate sale of these shares, acknowledged by the concert party, has not been resolved. This has to happen before any progress can be made.
Roger Tamraz has an interesting background.

Manyana: I think you will find it was Simon Coveney of Fine Gael who brought a note of reality to the conversation. Fianna Fail voted with Brid Smith to bank all offshore activity, including revocation of all licenses already granted - nice one Timmy Dooley ...who lost his seat!
