Morning Alan,
Depends what they are installing.
If it is your standard 4" HDPE pipe with fusion welds, then this is relatively quick and easy.
If it is welded steel section, using coded welders and a requirement to x ray every weld, then that takes a lot longer.
Granted, the emergency solenoid shut off valves will need to be commissioned, tested and proved before National grid will go anywhere near it.
If it is welded pipe-in-pipe, then that takes forever.
In all cases, the pipework will need to be strength tested and nitrogen purged before it can be charged and allowed to flow.
