The Climate Change Committee (CCC) said planning decisions should be tested against the country’s target to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Launching its annual progress report , the CCC said it wanted to see strong decarbonisation, with as little fossil fuel consumption as possible.

But it did not support the case, due at the Court of Appeal in November, that planning authorities should take account of carbon emissions from the use of oil produced onshore...

UK Oil & Gas PLC (London AIM: UKOG) is pleased to announce that its appeal against Surrey County Council's ("SCC") refusal of planning consent for the Loxley gas project will now be heard at a public inquiry to commence on Tuesday 27(th) July 2021.

The Planning Inspectorate's formal appeal process has an effective start date of March 1(st) and culminates with the public inquiry, scheduled for up to nine days. Based upon the earlier than expected inquiry date and the inspectorate's average post-inquiry decision timescales, the inspector's ruling is likely to be issued in autumn 2021.

Counsel continues to advise that there are strong grounds to expect a positive appeal outcome as SCC's cited grounds for refusal are in direct conflict with the advice of its professional Planning and Highway Officers and their respective recommendations for approval

As per the Company's release of 9th February 2020, UKOG's wholly owned Loxley project, located in licence PEDL234, centres upon appraising the second largest undeveloped gas accumulation discovered and flow tested in the UK onshore. If successful, the Company plans to use the gas as a feedstock for reformulation into clean burning hydrogen with the energy capacity to power around 200,000 homes per year.

"There already has been a number of wells in the Basur-3 structure which have demonstrated the presence of oil, that's why the Xodus report allocates a mean recoverable of about 37 million barrels.

So this is an appraisal well, it's not an exploration well, so the oil is there, we don't know exactly how much because the data is very old".

The main purpose of the well is to prove:
1/ the hydrocarbon volume; and
2/ commerciality.
