RE: Auction 121 Mar 2025 11:45
From this morning's update's links:
"... As Welsh gold typically fetches a significant premium to the normal spot price of gold, we are very excited to see what price these exclusive coins will fetch on the open market.”
Alba said a maximum of just 10 coins will be produced. Being ultra-limited, the company expects them to attract significant global interest. Gold is currently selling for more than $3,000 an ounce but given the rarity and appeal of Welsh gold, the coins should fetch much more.
To give an idea of their potential, 10 lots of old Clogau gold were auctioned in 2017, with an estimate of about £9,000. These had been mined under a government lease between 1979 and 1981.
After going under the hammer in Colwyn Bay, the lots sold for a total of £44,000. The smallest nugget, weighing 3g (0.1oz), went for £4,000. Gold flakes and dust weighing 16.26g (0.5oz) fetched £10,500. This suggests each coin could sell for £20,000-£40,000 – and quite possibly more ...
