RE: "There's gold in them there Welsh hills", The Times p527 Apr 2025 12:59
For non-subscribers to The Times, here's the text of the article which I read in this Saturday's printed edition (acccompanied by an eye-catching photo of the coin):
"A Welsh 1 oz gold coin mined by Alba Mineral Resources, the minerals exploration company, has been auctioned for £20,000 (Emma Taggart writes). It marks what is thought to be the first time in 25 years that Welsh gold has been mined successfully. The gold comes from the Clogau-St David's mine at Bontddu in Gwynned, north Wales.
GF, executive chairman of Alba, said: 'This is an exciting milestone as we continue to advance our development work at Clogau'.
He added that the sale was a 'validation of our strong belief in the commercial potential of Clogau-St David's mine, and of gold exploration and development across the north Wales Dolgellau gold belt generally'.
Alba acquired the mining rights for Clogau in 2018. The Aim-quoted firm uses modern technology to identify gold seams".
