But, a cynic might say:
"Why close the field because extraction is causing earthquakes and subsidence that is damaging all the local buildings? The field is below sea-level and global warming means that the area is going to be inundated in a few decades time So, they might as well extract as much gas as possible because they are going to need the money to buy land to live on elsewhere. And, the gas is going to burned anyway so the sea-rises are inevitable. Why pay a foreigner when the land is going to be lost to the sea regardless?"
