'Letters from an American' is a newsletter I subscribe to; it normally covers US politics but ventured into climate patterns in yesterday's issue. Worth a quick read even if you swill red-pill flavoured kool-aid:

This appears to be from the Steve Bannon playbook where rule 1 is 'flood the zone with 5h!t'. The Republicans want to distract from their problems with nominating Trump, trying to bring down the current GOV, wanting to dismantle Medicaid, the VA, Food Stamps etc whilst cutting taxes for the richest. Take the story with a shovel full of salt and then be sceptical.

An urgent rescue operation is underway to save Florida coral species from extinction as a mass bleaching event and die-off from unprecedented water temperatures spreads across reefs in the the Florida Keys.

Multiple reefs around the Florida Keys are now completely bleached or dead in a grim escalation that took place in as little as two weeks, coral experts told CNN.

Experts now say they expect “complete mortality” of the bleached reefs in just a week, and worry reefs at greater depths could face the same fate if the unprecedented ocean warmth continues to escalate.

Russia Threatens Bulgarian Invasion

🚨 It seems like Russia wants to invade every nation around its borders. It hasn't even been long since Russia and Belarus teased Poland about invading them. In a broadcast on Russian state television, Pyotr Tolstoy, the deputy speaker of the Russian parliament, said that Russia will attack Bulgaria and Romania after finishing its war in Ukraine.

“We are going to shoot [in Bulgaria and Romania], but first we have to finish up in Ukraine.”

He also claimed that the “Bulgarian Black Sea” is Russian because “everyone is [Russian] citizens” there and that they they will organize protests in the country. Tolstoy’s logic is absolutely air-tight here. 🙄

Bulgaria’s reaction: Bulgarian politicians and citizens are outraged by these threats. Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov has said he will ask the foreign ministry to react and give a clear sign to Russia that such statements are unacceptable. He also assured Bulgarians that they “should not be afraid,” as Russia would “not dare to attack a NATO member.”

What’s next: It remains to be seen what further actions will be taken in response to these threats. But in the meantime, it should be noted that this isn’t the first time Tolstoy has made controversial statements about Bulgaria. In 2016, he said that Russia “will buy out the entire [Bulgaria]” and had already bought half of the coastal area.

Is this yet another all-time low? I suppose the average downers are delighted at another opportunity?

Certainly worth listening to the Investor Meet presentation from today; the company seems to be weathering the current economic climate well enough. The presentations end up on YouTube in a couple of days...

Listening to the Van Elle accounts presentation... They mentioned that Housing Sector demand has been surprisingly strong and put it down to front loading of activity before Part L (Building Regulations 2010) comes into force (later this year?).

If builders are already reporting slowing results this might be a red flag for the builders sector going forward.
