Yes; we do need O&G and I support getting as much as we can out of the North Sea as possible. But, my support comes with caveats.
Firstly, it needs to be extracted by a company that keeps the profits in the UK, as there is a dire balance of payments problem. Secondly; the myth that UK O&G is less polluting needs to be exposed again and again; O&G sourced from Norway has a smaller environmental footprint than existing UK based supplies.
It is why I posted that Sunak should have encouraged the already approved fields to be expedited whilst permitting onshore wing, improving the Grid and encouraging battery research. Putting in policies for red meat politics just damages UK Plc for short term political gain [and the gains will have evaporated by the end of the summer recess.
Do we really want Rees-Frog in charge of climate policies...
