Sorry Dr. P., I must cast a bit of a shadow over your optimism. I don't mean there to be any party politics in this, I not on the side of any party. My comments are purely about the issues.
You quote this, "Labour would continue to use existing oil and gas wells" - and you say, "For me this is clear: even if Labour comes to power, I feel Delt's current assets are safe" - but DELT does not have any existing gas wells, and Labour won't allow new ones to be opened. I doubt that Selene or Pensacola would become operational before the next election, however a Labour win is not guaranteed so please don't take me as being totally despondent.
You quote Tom Baxter - "So Labour, how are you going to decarbonise transport, heat and power generation and provide for renewable intermittency together with energy security without new oil and gas developments? Without a plan I can't buy in." - a plan? Here's an example of how they can't plan anything and how the science makes no difference - in the heatwave of 2018, Mary Creagh, chair of the House Of Commons Environmental Committee and a Labour bigwig, said that to prevent people from dying from extreme heat, new houses must not be made to be so well insulated, and we must stop putting large windows on south facing walls because they heat up rooms. At the same time Jeremy Corbyn, the then leader of the Labour Party and a colleague of Creagh's was saying the exact opposite - we need better insulation in new houses.
As for "energy security" - they (whoever "they" were at the time) were warned about energy security before they closed the Rough gas storage facility. They ignored the warnings and closed it, so energy security means nothing to them. Has the Russian gas issue made them change their minds? I don't know.
How much influence does the Just Stop Oil mob have on Labour policy? I read in the news that Starmer gets financial backing from the man behind JSO, and quite hefty sums. He who pays the piper, calls the tune, as they say.
The whole green argument is full of contradictions. They wanted Drax to switch from coal to biomass (wood pulp) but now they have finally admitted the harm that bringing wood pulp all the way from Canada does and now the eco-warriors want Drax to stop burning wood pulp.
They were demanding more planting of trees. That was supposed to be good for the planet, but here’s a headline from the BBC: ‘Planting new forests can do more harm than good.’ - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-53138178.
When they have a agenda to fulfil, facts don't matter, the science doesn't matter.
Just look at the harm solar panels are doing in the Californian desert - "Biden's Solar Push Is Destroying The Desert And Releasing Stored Carbon". The massive solar farms (and they are MASSIVE) wreck the eco-structure and kill plants that can be 2,000 years old. The roots store carbon, but when they die, the carbon is released, and that's just part of the story,
