RE: New licences7 Aug 2023 11:42
There has been a lot posted since last Friday, probably too much for most people to read. I hadn't wanted to post over the weekend, but things came up in the news that were relevant.
So briefly, to fill you in if you haven't read it all -
Last week I predicted that the Greenpeace stunt was the start of a campaign that will grow until Sunak reverses his pledge to grant new licences for oil and gas exploration.
Over the weekend we got news that Just Stop Oil plan to shut down London for three weeks in protest against new licences.
I had said that Greenpeace and other groups will act. One of those groups sprung up to disrupt some cycling race. As No.2 rightly points out, that in itself isn't a major event, but my point was that this will grow. There will be other groups crawling out of the woodwork.
This is important for the future of DELT.
Will Sunak give in to the demands of the protestors? Well, I have given the example of Cameron and the IF campaign.
Cameron wanted to increase foreign aid, but he knew that his voters wouldn't want that so he used a sneaky trick.
He sent out agents to set up a protest group - the "Increase Foreign Aid Campaign". They used the "IF Campaign", they dropped the 'A' as IF sounds slicker than IFA.
So then, in an arranged news photoshoot, he stood outside of Number 10 with a group from the IF Campaign and he said to the news reporters and to the TV cameras, that he didn't want to increase foreign aid but "these young people are making me do it. It's what people want".
Later, when he was no longer the PM, he said in a TV interview, that increasing foreign aid was his proudest achievement.
That s what our rulers are like - sneaky and duplicitous.
I think Sunak will do the same over the licenses. He will say that he wanted to grant licenses, but the voice of the people made him change his mind. I hope I am wrong and DELT wins news licences thus pushing up the sp.
