Sipp - BP in 10 years time will be producing green hydrogen I'm sure.

Right now though there is no market for hydrogen, no transport infrastructure (hydrogen tankers, pipelines), and no large scale green hydrogen production. It's capital intensive and highly speculative investment at the moment.

BP are currently looking to build there first blue hydrogen plant in the UK. They have an interesting overview on their website.

I can see magnus electrification if there is enough life left in her to justify the cost. And longer term the green hydrogen thing may happen with SVT repurposed. It is a long way off though. How many hydrogen tankers exist in the world? What is the demand for hydrogen?

So what's the plan? We are going to get into offshore wind to power an electrolysis plant at SVT? Very easy to say.

Chilting - oil companies in the UK have enough on their plate to meet the carbon targets.

Other technologies you talk about such as hydrogen and CCS are not commercial currently. EnQ do not have deep enough pockets to participate at this stage.

I would prefer they focus on growing production, perhaps taking on more decomm projects and become a specialist in that, which in the future may include disposing of C02 in old wells.

They have options for a declining oil world but in my view you are talking about projects which need very deep pockets at this stage. There is still plenty of opportunities in oil to pick up the scraps as the majors begin to shift focus.

So best hope is having SP below last placing price? And that would be assuming there are not any surprise large arrangement fees paid out (or am I too cynical?). And also assumes the SP values the cash at 100% (doubtful given lack of trust in the BOD IMHO)

If they invest the money wisely then could see that $18 million growing by say 10% per year?

Not exactly what the BODs promised when they came on board but at least the losses could be over in that scenario.

Remember we were all expecting the 1m barrels to be for 1 month only.

Once opec is out of the way I think we have all the bad news out of the way. Next news will be places opening up, Vaccines proving their effectiveness m. Summer weather reducing infection rates, driving season, etc etc

We just need a sustained period of high prices. Getting the refinancing through will add value (tax losses can be used) and remove uncertainty (debt repayment, production estimates).

A better analogy might be stripping lead paint of an old door. Eventually you might end up with a beautiful georgian door, but it's an expensive, messy, and risky process. And was it really worth it??
