Barclays told staff in a memo on Monday morning that 700 people would return to offices across the UK, US and India over July and August. That represents about 1% of the bank’s total workforce and is expected to primarily apply to traders and those who cannot do most of their work from home.

In April, the Barclays chief executive, Jes Staley, said the bank would consider a more decentralised approach to staff working, including the prospect of local high street branches becoming satellite offices for a broader range of staff including investment bankers. “The notion of putting 7,000 people in a building may be a thing of the past,” Staley said.

The vast majority of Barclays’ 80,000 staff, including those who work at its London headquarters in Canary Wharf, will continue working from home until at least the end of September.

mystic1076 Barclays too expensive? I think they are over priced at this moment in time as does James Athey - Investment Director at Aberdeen Asset Management when speaking to Bloomberg in the last few days.

When asked about Value Stock Sectors including Banks this week he said:
“I feel that it is difficult to find Value stocks with further potential Growth within the Stock Market at this moment in time. The Stock Market appears to be ridiculously expensive relative to the economic issues we face going forward. Therefore Value Stocks, even at their current price can’t perform relative to Growth.”

Pushed on what discount to the market he would feel would be an entry point. He loosely indicated that “Historically, the Market appears to be at least 30% higher than it should”.

WMMG, in relation to SP on Monday, according to the FTSE 100 Futures they are currently Up 65.6 points and/or 1.07%. However, best to check again Sunday night when the FTSE 100 Futures give a clearer indication.

As for next week as a whole, IMHO I see them as sideways trading within a floor and ceiling level, up a few pence then the following day down a few pence. As mystic1076 beautifully put it “rinse and repeat” ie. on the whole, the return of their trading behaviours as seen for the last 4 weeks or so.

I still remain cautious/bearish. I see this as a bear rally with a W shape recovery. I think we are towards the top of the first V of the W ie. the centre point with a drop and opportunity to buy discounted stock not too far away. I hope so anyway, as I keep repeating that I am looking to buy at a discount.

Interested to hear your and anyone else’s thoughts, especially if it includes a simple rationale. I have the greatest respect to listen to people’s opinions, even if I politely may not entirely agree with them.

Inevitably, their movements differ marginally to competitors but are still normally spot on. IMHO, The China situation is a significant blot on the landscape and I sense Trump, who has never acted delicately with his actions could be the catalyst for significant turbulent movements on the markets between now and The US November elections.

If not a correction, then a collection of bumps in the road between now and November. I continue to look to buy in at a discount but may have to increase my buy in price at this juncture.

Yes... borrowing WMMG’s lectern this evening, the FTSE 100 Futures indicate a Red Day Tomorrow. Currently down 41Points and/or 0.67%. Which goes against the recent routine of ending on a high for at least the last 4 to 5 Fridays from memory.
