I have the greatest respect for anyone that admits making a loss in public. Genuinely sorry to hear of anyone losing money, on what tends to be a fairly respectful board. My hat off too you.

Personally, this is my greatest concern with placing short spread bets, not sure what you gambled on per point, but when it doesn’t work out you lose your stake money and much, much more. I sort of get placing a long spread bet, even if it back fires, all you have lost is your original stake.

I speak for myself, but when placing a short term intended buy and sell for £30k, then a penny movement either way means either a Loss or Profit of £228 accordingly... roughly £2k up at the moment. Looking for at least £3k before I “rinse and repeat”.

Good Luck my Friend and be patient... at lease up to Thursday 18th Feb, the difficulty thereafter is knowing when to sell... easy eh? Lol!

I suspect/hope that 150p+ will be surpassed certainly on, if not before Full Year Results Day of Thursday 18th February 2021. I was surprised to see your post saying you’d Sold, I can’t see when you sold as your post appears to have disappeared?!

Looking at a collection of Short Term Positives that I expect... The Dow Jones to continue to see-saw upwards, it’s currently Up almost 2% as I type, which should (in theory) mean tomorrow is a Blue Day. The US Stimulus Package expected to be announced anytime within the next 2 weeks. The continuation of UK New Covid Cases to continue to drop. The UK Covid Vaccine Cases to continue to increase.

A quick read from the veteran Chartist of Alistair Strang from Interactive Investor who suggests a return to 26p is irresistible.

“When we last reviewed Lloyds Bank (LSE: LLOY) three weeks ago we were pretty confident a break of 34p would drive reversal to an initial 30p, with secondary, when (or if) broken, at an eventual bottom of 26p. The share price broke below our trigger level five days ago and is grudgingly moving down to our target level. It needs to exceed 38p simply to escape the immediate reversal cycle, something we're not inclined to hold our breath for.

For Lloyds to exceed 38p it would break the immediate blue downtrend, meaning the share could recover to an initial 44.5p with secondary, if bettered, a fairly cheerful 50p. As mentioned previously, moves this year tend to suggest 26p shall prove irresistible.”

The ‘good’ news, in a falling market, is that they didn’t breach 130p. Is this a new short term support level?

Yesterday’s low point was 130.18p The low point of today being 132.66p. The last time they breached 130p was Friday 13th November at 129.68p.

To reiterate my ‘lump’ is a short term play, looking for an uplift by the end of the next week, with some yo-yo-ing (is that a word?) and then a jump leading up-to and post full year results of Thu 18 Feb 21.... those are my thoughts/expectations anyway.

...aiming for a circa 10% return with a Short Term Hold and Sell Strategy. I was trying to hold off buying until tomorrow, Friday. My simple logic/rationale that Monday 1st Feb will bring Institutional Private Investor Orders and Barclays Year End Positive News on Thursday 18th Feb 21. If the price can resist breaking/falling below 130p, then that is a reasonable signal to me that some short term upside is visible for short term/swing trading.

The DownJones Index closed the day down by 2.05% which does not bode well for tomorrow. Understanding that the Futures Markets can move overnight, the FTSE 100:is currently anticipated to open Down by over1.01%. On a positive note... could be a Good Day to Buy?

Depends on your strategy. If you are gambling short term, as intend to do with a liquid lump and you are looking to get in today then it may make sense to wait until after 2.30pm when New York Markets open. Dow Jones Futures looking Red/Down by 222pts / 0.72%. Theory indicates that UK tends to (with no Guarantees) to follow the behaviours of the Dow Jones.

I placed a Limit Order at 141.50p this morning until close of Business. It automatically expired at 16:35hrs, I understand the low point of the day was 141.96p. Let's see what Monday brings?

So when do you see the Financial Correction arriving? I sense that there is still some short term “positive” news of the U.S. Stimulus package of circa $1,400 per U.S. citizen to stimulate the markets yet... I am not in denial. Fat from it. I truly expected a second correction in October 2020. Needless to say that came and went? As a betting man... probable timescale?

FTSE 100 Futures looking to open Down at 8.00am today. Dow Jones Futures looking to open Down at 2.30pm today. Typically Barclays looking to open Down today. I sense 141p may come into sight today? Do you see 140p being breached? Potentially a good day for a Contrarian Short Term purchase?

In layman’s terms...

Mortgage Repayment Defaults, especially for residential properties, are very Bad for Banks for a collection of reasons. Including but not limited to:

1. Loss of Interest.
2. Late return of loan repayment capital.
3. Higher Staff Running Costs whereby the Banks internal Debt Recoveries Team are Involved typically for 12 months per case.
4. Elongated Legal fees, Court fees, Auction Fees and Commissions which typically can amount to up to 30% of the Property Value... yes... 30%. The days of simply “kicking” someone out are long gone.
5. The probability of repossessing a purposefully damaged and/or neglected property meaning it’s value has been reduced further still.

The amount of repossessed properties that typically become available at Auction following a recession is scary. The majority show the after effects of disgruntled Bankrupt former occupiers having ripped out a boiler, copper pipes and had left water running to damage the Property even further. The former occupiers view of “How can you sue me if I’m broke?”

Add into the mix Mortgage Repayment Defaults by Property Investment Landlords whom do not have the funds to make monthly repayments for say 10 tenants who have not paid their rent since they went on furloughed in March 2020 and can’t be evicted and then Property Portfolios are being repossessed.

Rinse and repeat the same behaviours for private owners of Commercial Units who cannot make their repayments because their business can not trade. Again, a repeat of the same issues for Commercial Landlords as Residential Landlords...

Then to add to the perfect storm, unsecured personal loans and credit card balances needing to be categorised as Bad Debt being Written Off.

Summary: Any Loan Defaults are NOT good for Banks.

Meanwhile, US banks have reported relatively strong quarterly numbers... These numbers matter because Barclays has a strong trading business that generates billions of dollars in revenue. As such, it means that the company will likely report strong numbers in February. (Thu 18 Feb 21).
