Payment of 2019 final dividend - sterling amount


On 13 May 2020, the directors of Anglo Asian Mining plc announced a final dividend in respect of the year ending 31 December 2019 of US$0.045 per ordinary share. This final dividend is to be paid on 30 July 2020 to shareholders on the share register on 3 July 2020. The dividend is payable in cash in sterling to holders of ordinary shares. A scrip dividend or any other dividend reinvestment plan will not be offered by Anglo Asian Mining plc.

The dividend will be converted to pounds sterling using the average of the sterling closing mid-price using the exchange rate published by the Bank of England at 4pm each day from the 6 to 10 July 2020, being £1 = US$1.2591. Accordingly, the amount of sterling dividend payable in cash on 30 July 2020 will be:

3.5739 pence per ordinary share.

Moderna is enrolling 30,000 volunteers for its biggest covid-19 vaccine trial
Biotech company Moderna just announced it was working with the US National Institutes of Health to launch what will be one of the largest covid-19 vaccine trials.

How does the vaccine work? Moderna’s vaccine works by introducing a viral messenger RNA (mRNA) into the body for human cells to pick up. The human cells use the mRNA to create a fragment of a SARS-CoV-2 viral particle that should not cause an infection, but is enough for the immune system to recognize as a foreign antigen.

How promising is this vaccine? It has shown good results in earlier trials, leading to strong antibody production with tolerable side effects.

The phase 3 trial: The study will enroll up to 30,000 participants, from 89 sites across the US. Researchers want to know not just how well the vaccine prevents infection, but also whether it can limit the severity of the illness when infections still do occur.

What other vaccines are at this stage? According to the New York Times’ vaccine tracker, there are five other vaccines undergoing phase 3 trials—one spearheaded by researchers from the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca (which is testing people from several countries in the largest trial in the world), and three from Chinese groups. Pfizer and a German company called BioNTech are also working on an mRNA vaccine that has just started, also with 30,000 volunteers.

"Positive news on the vaccine front is also underpinning share prices as both Moderna and Pfizer launched phase-3 trials on Monday, which could pave the way for a vaccine already by year-end," Danske Bank noted.

The world's biggest Covid-19 vaccine study got under way with the first of 30,000 planned volunteers helping to test jabs created by the US government. It is one of several candidates in the final stretch of the global vaccine race.

There is still no guarantee that the experimental vaccine, developed by the National Institutes of Health and Moderna, will really protect. Volunteers will not know if they are getting the real shot or a dummy version. After two doses, scientists will closely track which group experiences more infections as they go about their daily routines, especially in areas where the virus still is spreading unchecked.

Next up in August, the final study of the Oxford shot begins, followed by plans to test a candidate from Johnson & Johnson in September and Novavax in October if all goes according to schedule.

Major European stock indexes traded in green premarket on Tuesday as the earnings season continues. Investors are awaiting today's batch of corporate reports, which include Pfizer Inc. and McDonald's Corp. In addition, optimism was driven by the news that Pfizer-BioNTech's vaccine started its late-stage human trial.

The FTSE 100 gained 0.32% at 7:27 am CET, while the DAX increased 0.37%. The CAC 40 was flat.

Meanwhile, the euro fell 0.21% against the dollar at 7:28 am CET to $1.17264. The pound was down 0.26% to $1.28484 at the same time.

Research: Treating Covid-19 severity
As the hunt for a Covid-19 vaccine continues to dominate the news, a new treatment for the disease is also coming to light. According to researchers at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, a common drug used to lower cholesterol may reduce the threat of Covid-19 significantly. According to early findings, the ‘virus prevents the routine burning of carbohydrates. As a result, large amounts of fat accumulate inside lung cells, a condition the virus needs in order to reproduce.’ In order to counter this, researchers tested the cholesterol-lowering drug Fenofibrate, which has shown promising results so far: ‘Within only five days of treatment, the virus almost completely disappeared.’

Own factory - an interesting development here. Very clever, I think. BooHoo has decided to set up its own "model" factory in Leicester, making clothes directly for its own websites, and demonstrating best practice. This is great PR I think - as if anyone criticises BooHoo for using suppliers which operate sweatshops, then it will be able to point to its own impeccable factory.

The other aspect of this, is that it cuts out the wholesaler's typical 20-30% profit margin. In doing so, that could make UK production economically viable, even if paying full minimum wage. There might be opportunities to automate some processes too.

My opinion - an interesting development. I see the current depressed share price as a terrific buying opportunity, as there have been numerous allegations against many brands, for either exploiting warehouse, or subcontractors. As long as they're seen to do something about it, then these things quickly blow over.

They have since dropped to a bargain basement price of 23.5p today
So a takeover soon would recoup my loss into a massive profit if 50p were offered.

Even SXX had funding problems paying 12% and more for loans, with huge Chinese orders in place
