How about if we rewrite the buyback rules for next quarter and only buyback in days when sp has already dropped at least 5 p
Any cash not spent to go in pot for next div.
Or is the heat getting to my brain

It’s a funny balance to try keeping all happy.
I’m sure that if they did reinstate div I would have no complaints.
Think sp would rocket if that happened.
It would be nice to have a path leading to full reinstatement so we knew exactly what they were thinking .
I have alway assumed that it was expected that buybacks on their own would have had much more affect on sp so hopefully we are ahead of plan ( especially with oil price where it is).
So maybe they can live with affect an announcement on div would have.
Won’t be long now till we hopefully have more visibility.

I believe that the 4% uplift in div was self financed by drop in share count due to buybacks.
There are all sort of number floating about here of how much % of shares have been bought back.
However I believe buyback was increased after their 4% number was announced, so hoping that means uplift is higher than 4%.
As stated below that relies on 60 dollar oil so maybe a wee bit more wriggly room there also.
Personally would be happy if they said 10% out to 2025 if oil price stays in similar range.
That the fun of waiting for results day we all expect slightly different things

I think only people who lived through the high inflation and high interest periods of the 80s really understand what the inflation/ interest rate spiral is like.
It becomes tit for tat.
You need more pay because prices have gone up which causes prices to go up again
Interest rates go up to fight inflation so you need more pay to pay mortgage,so you start the cycle again , but from a higher start point so it becomes a spiral.
Someone is always doing better than you so you feel hard done to.
The only way it stops is usually governments get involved.
And note inflation of only 10% makes you one of the better economies as time goes on as 20-25% inflation is not unusual , and much much higher.
Nobody wins especially those who went on strike at the start as their hard won extra couple of percent over 2 years gets drowned by the next round of pay rises.
Been there done it.
Not in a hurry to repeat.

Think we have all been told for years how clever the Germans are.
It seems their politicians are making almost as many mistakes as ours.
Think USA making just as many mistakes.
Have said it before if only we could keep politicians out of the oil industry.
The oil companies have had fewer empties than many Super Markets.
And less bankruptcies than UK energy suppliers.
We must do something right.

I think Russia will play games whatever happens.
It’s in their interest to keep prices high even if they still discount the headline oil price.
It’s also in their interest to keep oil price high to cripple western economies.
So they can say sanctions are mainly affecting west.
So if oil price drops they will react in some way to keep oil price relatively high.

Zac if Buffet had bought that much of BP do you really think it would not also have influence the sp in a rather positive manner?

I would say from what “oil experts” are saying is there is a battle going on between the fundamentals of the physical market , and the bets on oil.
Fundamentals usually win ( except currently on BP sp)

Zac I have to admit it’s getting harder to argue against your negative outlook.
But some reports suggest that demand has not fallen in US yet, but that gas stations etc are delaying re-ordering as prices are currently falling.
It will take few weeks to prove oneway or other.
I was looking at a lot of data on US gasoline ( prices , demand etc) and it left me totally confused.
In the main gasoline demand was higher last year than this.
That’s not what I expected , but think it was pent up demand last year and also less competition last year from airlines.
Still hoping for a bounce up after results, but it remains to be seen what sp bounce starts at.

America gasoline prices appear to have peaked and now coming back down a bit.
UK petrol and diesel prices appear to have bounced of £2 and have dropped a bit.
Crude dropped below 100 dollars.
B.A. chairman saying Airline tickets prices will have to rise to keep pace with jet fuel prices.
Have we just pushed the demand destruction debate back a couple of months till heating season starts?

I agree Charlie Grandatoms post are very thought provoking.
I have said in past that no one should use stuff posted on here as their investment instructions.
It’s very useful to make you think, and see both sides of argument
But all must do their own research.
And I fully admit some posters on here are truly excellent.
