It does make the buybacks suddenly appear an even better idea as if BP have bought back a large number of shares in UK ,it would make it a bit easier to change to Ireland or Switzerland.

There a post of yours I can agree 100% with.
Brokers just pick numbers to suit their own narrative as you well know.
If they were any good they would be too rich to bother telling us what might, maybe happen some time.
As far as BP sp is concerned I think the first major step in the recovery was to finally have a div over 5 p.
It has been there often historically ( and yes often much higher especially with a oil price near $100).
The main benefit of a div over 5 p are
1) it’s nearer to 8 p
2) it’s a bigger number if we gets 10% rise again.
3) it’s easier to count in 5 compared to 4.1244 sp or whatever number it used to be
4) once it’s above 5 p hopefully if pound ever rallies and we can still afford it div will go up in dollars to keep our div above 5 p.
And just in case you think I got really excited at a 5 p div just watch me when we hit 6 p next year.
Even at my most positive anything above £5 is way in the future, but maybe possible after the much talked about recession occurs and has passed.
BP traditionally does trading ranges but these are not normal ranges.
You would expect some sp to be a bottom and with real news a 25-40 p trading range.
Every results day it’s like they remember BP makes lots of cash then 6 weeks later it’s forgotten again

Here is the reason

This announcement is made in replacement of the 'Q2 2022 Payments of dividends in sterling' announcement released on 6 September 2022 (RNS number 3437Y). In the original announcement the declared US$ per ordinary share rate had been incorrectly rounded to 4 decimal places and is corrected below. This affected the sterling rate calculation and the sterling rate was therefore also incorrectly stated. The sterling rate is corrected below.

There has been a second RNS giving a slightly different figure.
No idea why
But it’s funny when they make a mistake and correct we always loose out

Sterling dividends payable in cash will be converted from US dollars at an average of the market exchange rate over the three dealing days between 31 August and 2 September 2022 (£1 = US$1.16206). Accordingly, the amount of sterling dividend payable in cash on 23 September 2022 will be:



5.1684 pence per share.

Straight to the point the div has been slashed.
And quite a few of the dividends prior to the slashing were paid by increasing debt

I like that we now only pay div we can afford.
I will like it better when they think they can afford more.
I don’t think we should ever return to the days of paying a div we did not earn.
Div should always be related to profit and affordability.
And I respect the view of those who say we could currently afford more.
