Think once again the government is missing a trick with offshore wind.
They are so desperate to get cash now ,they never think a little less now, but we will have take. 2% of every offshore-wind farm.
No expenses in the running of the assets but just a constant pay out year after year.

It’s always good to hear 2 sides and often we all learn.
It’s very easy to just defend our position and put our fingers in our ears, but I believe every post that is not abusive is valuable.

Costs in the oil industry like decommissioning are just business costs.
They come out of the profit and loss account just like any other business.
The problem is a twisted spin by the media.
BP may have spent £5 billion 20 years ago on a field and satellite wells.
When they come to decommission they then spend £1 billion which is £1 billion less profit they made so they pay less tax.
It’s more complicated than that I know .
But if you do not invest larger sums you cannot claim back large sums .
All numbers in oil industry are big
Decommissioning is not something all oil companies would want to do.
Some would happily go bankrupt and have someone else foot the bill.
It’s a government requirement to decommission old wells.

Historically
The British Government under a Labour government set up,BNOC which was a government owned oil company.
Every North Sea field licence had a clause that the owners had to sell a small % of oil from the field to BNOC at some price. ( not sure how price was agreed but suspect it was linked to Forties price).
BNOC could then do what it wanted to with this crude including immediately selling it back to owners.
This was supposed to allow the country to share in the oil prosperity.
BNOC eventually had stakes in several new field’s
What happened to this company you ask.
It was privatised then later swallowed up by BP , and the government allowed it to happen as they had a Golden share.
Governments always greedy for more cash to spend.

The companies importing gas to UK won’t sell below market value they would sell elsewhere, and may also have a case to World Trade Organisation for unfair subsidies.
As could all competitors of Companies getting cheaper fuel

Once soon a time when ever one oil company was being bought like this it would have resulted in every oil company sp getting a lift.
Don’t think we are seeing this, but it may be happening and just hidden in all the volatility

If history tells us anything it tells us if you take profitable companies and nationalise them, they are very very rarely anything like as profitable after nationalisation.
You see it within BP they cannot support every profitable idea.
A nationalised companies never gets enough money back to invest properly for the future.
There are a few national champions out there who buck this trend but they are few .

I have said often in the windfall tax debate
It’s time to redesign the tax system for this century.
We all know what a profit is .
So let all profit no matter where it comes from be taxed the same.
And have a very simple list of things you can deduct.
No loopholes.
No areas of tax avoidance.
Make it all simple and easy to understand
No need for army of accountants .
Only problem is all parties would have to agree, or every new party winning would add their own bits.

DarkEnergy I think you will find shareholders own a share in a company.
Anything you share you all have part of.
Which I think is the same as owning part of.
It’s a very strange thing for a grown up to have taken offence at.
( that part is not aimed at you)

Think the next 2 years ( or maybe 3 or 4) are going to be a massive speed bump in the governments of the worlds road map to 2030.
My biggest surprise was discovering that a hybrid only does 30-50 miles as an electric( plug in hybrid a little more).
So you carry round an extra massive battery for a minor advantage, unless you run out of petrol when it could be very useful.
I had assumed they were a lot better than that .
The future used to be bright ( and Orange) now think it’s a little tarnished
