They all really appear to be trying to out do one another in the stupid stakes just now.
A little bit of common sense would really help right now.

EU now paying the price for previous Energy mistakes and reacting by making a whole set of new mistakes

Europe will never fully trust Russia again.
Hopefully they have learned the lesson about all eggs in one basket.
At some point in future maybe 2026-2027 the ability of a country like Russia to hold others to ransom will start to weaken as new Hydrogen technology starts to come on line, even if at first it just used as a 10% additional to natural gas mix in pipelines, and some niche gas users like cement and steel works.

Bifab in Scotland was bailed out by Scottish gov with a view to being part of the boom.
But all the early orders went abroad and it failed a second time.
The US or China would just make it a condition you use local steel or local companies at least for some.
To BPs credit the Scotwind bid does plan to get local companies on board and they already have a portal to register interest as suppliers.

Would add Ive discovered the perfect sell signal for BP shares.
When my wife says she is selling and I say I will take them over as there is more profit there.
If you hear me say that again Sell Sell Sell.
That’s twice she has topped the market within 6 p and I could have bought same shares 2 weeks later 30-50 p cheaper
I keep telling her she is cleverer than me but she doesn’t believe me.

A nice detailed summary as I have come to expect from you.
I took out approx £50,000 earlier in year from various shares including BP (as have been doing lot of home improvement ). all at good prices
In the background have also been trying to have my better yield shares concentrated in ISA ( which for one of the few times when cash needed has been untouched).
I have had a simple investment strategy this year of trading pairs.
I just keep an eye on the shares I already own or have owned and if one drops significantly after results I will look why.
Some have been baby out with bath water, so I have sold a share whose sp has risen (so yield dropped )and bought share which has dropped ( now giving better yield)
It’s nice and simple but probably will not earn as big as your strategy.

Thinks it’s really time for cool heads.
There are going to be bargain prices coming up.
The trick will be knowing what is real and what’s a false bottom( before the event).
I’m sure OPEC will ride to the rescue.
They need a high oil price ( heard due to inflation it’s now $90 they need).
I really need to not buy anymore but if we go below £4 I will,be back in again.

Over 13 million shares bought.
Would we have dropped even further without the buybacks?
Will these prices by the end of next week look like a bargain, or will we be back looking at £4.

It doesn’t appear to be BP specific as Shell and some other oillies down about same amount.
Some may have waited on div before selling and oil down a little will not have helped.
Few posters on here have been tempted recently to sell.
It’s rare to not get a little rise if you plan to reinvest.
Todays buybacks will be cheaper.
Hopefully it’s just profit taking and not the start of the next game of snakes and ladders.

It’s always nice to bank a big profit.
There is nothing worse than letting greed lead to one of those if only stories.
Hopefully next results will allow what you have left to make another chunk of profit for you.
After the last x years who would ever have thought money in the bank would come back in fashion .
From comments on here a couple of months ago maybe you should put a bit in Premium Bonds no risk and a bit of fun till you need the cash.

It’s not just even a BP problem it’s almost every company in US at some time, even the ones who will tell you they are a lot safer than BP.
The only reason I can think of is that since first oil boom started in US there is older kit than elsewhere.
Lots of mods may have been done and whole bits replaced, but there will be some parts almost original.They will be checked frequently, but there is a lot to check, so it’s done on a risk basis eg low pressure systems may be considered less of a risk if something goes wrong, but the border between low and high pressure then becomes critical.
It was in a press release that refinery was over 100 years old.
Latin America appears even worse, but I suspect that is due to lack of investment.

Baz agree entirely.
Small fires with minimal damage can lead to a feeling that it’s almost normal.
You are still more likely to die on your way to work than at a refinery, but everything usually starts with a small thing.
It’s now time BP make things as safe as possible, I believe the will is there, and probably the cash if needed.
BP more than anyone knows the cost of getting it wrong.

I’ve been having a thought about my last answer regarding negligence, and think I answered from a refinery perspective.
I think 2 major fires and also fatalities will result in people looking for answers, and rightly so.
We were told at Grangemouth after a run of major incidents including fatalities that the next one would result in someone going to prison.
BP must make sure that this is the last incident.
BPs reputation which they have been trying to repair since oil spill now back at square one.More importantly BP cannot have any more fatalities especially in America.
We know the oil industry is dangerous, and fires can happen, but flying is probably more dangerous than working in a refinery, and they don’t go to work expecting to not come home.
