We were below £5.
The mood music does appear to have changed.
I am slowly starting to think we will see a div hike sooner rather than later.
And then watch sp go.

Spights high today of £4.986 so far.
Usual margin of error is +/- 0.3% so by that measure your £5 prediction would already have come true.
I know you are not one for half measures so will not call until it really happens.
Think there will have been a flood of sellers who missed £5 last time and don’t want caught twice.
Also some who bought that last dip and now happy to take a profit.
Charlie said a few weeks ago that buyback is structured to match sells from private investors so it will do a fine job of soaking up these sellers.
There are actually people out there happy to buy at the price which must say something about BP sentiment.
And of course as stated by others there is this whole oil price cap thing going on, although EU have already said if there are any unintended consequences that they will suspend it immediately,so think there might be a few teething problems.
£5 here we come

BP appears to be loved again.
People are finally seeing the value we always new was there.

It’s looking very possible.
It’s amazing how as sp rises a 2% swing now approx 10p
When sp was only £2 a 2% swing was only 4 p.

Demand Destruction taking a long time to set in .
USA still consuming lots of fuel.
Will probably get worse after first cold spell.

We are close to our 52 week high here ( at it in US)
What has suddenly changed?( since late October)
Oil price off its highs( probably at a more sustainable level around $90).
Earnings probably peaked a quarter ago.
Recession incoming.
Is it that WT is know a known?
Is it purely safe haven play?
Does the market now think div will rise?
Do they think the Russian embargo will be good for BP?
I’m sure it’s nothing to do with renewables as it’s to early for them to start to pay their way.
It looks like BP suddenly is back in favour.
I hope it continues.

I think there is a limit to how much % they can buy in a day.
So much easier to move market in a higher volume day when you can buy more,especially if it wants to go up anyway.

Well there is the answer to one question.
The biggest buyback for while.
And very good response.
I never thought we had a 6.5% rise in our locker.

Baz sometimes a subdued market lets the buybacks drive the price up.
Tomorrow to digest todays rise.
Thursday to creep up past £4.90
And Friday to get back above £5.
Or else another day of snakes and ladders after today.

I checked your posting history last night before my reply( I’m slowly getting better at not jumping in with a reply).
I know you will be an asset to this board.
Sometime we just have to turn Nelson’s blind eye to the bits we don’t agree with.
Looking forward to some more posts.
I personally enjoy hearing some history from posters,and it’s interesting where it sometimes leads.

I see oil shares as a safe haven at present, as they have earnings.
But sentiment can change for any number of reasons.
If BP weather the recession as well as I hope then the next challenge to sentiment may be as earning power returns to other asset classes whose sp was beaten down by the recession.

The thing I take from yesterday’s manipulation is that OPEC are ready and willing to defend their oil price.
And so will play a big part in managing the oil price through the recession.
This has always been my hope( thoughts).
Oil at $90 instead of $100 hopefully helps inflation a bit and still does a lot for our earnings .
I’m bullish until there is a reason to panic

The bounce back today in oil and oil stocks suggests that there is some strong support until there is a major change in sentiment.

I would assume that the strong reversal in sp today would be a very positive signal.
Making yesterday nothing more significant than a manipulated blip.

After last night’s comments.
I would like to just note something I have said in the past.
Posts on here do not represent your research.
But should be used to give information, for further research yourself.
No one on here can really predict this market so our comments like £5 by Christmas are personal beliefs, and are never investment advice.
We as a board have a wide variety of views and knowledge and this board is very good with helping those who want it.( especially new investors who may assume all posts are the same)
I think most on here understand what we are here for and login for a reason.
I have said it very recently I actually like how our board works.
I have learned more this year than I ever thought I would.

There was a time when I self censored myself because of the backlash on here against green posts.
Now I post what I feel like.
It’s their problem.

I would hope that there would be an investigation and that someone would loose their job.
