y11 do you really think the Biden administration know anything about the oil industry.
Most US oil CEO’s have repeatedly said the US administration don’t have a clue.
So not sure I believe just because they said it.

How’s this for a scenario.
Buybacks according to Charlie ( who’s figures I trust) will run out of cash long before next set of results.( probably about year end)
Let’s buyback as much as we can as cheaply as possible.
Then when buybacks are over for the quarter just a little announcement early January that due to tax changes next div after Feb results will increase by 25-30%.
Think that might just be positive for sp.
Just me trying to add 2 + 2 and get an answer of 6 but you never know.

My thoughts have been for a while that with the recent change in how div is taxed for us shareholders the board have an obvious scapegoat if they increase the div to rebalance things for us.
Politically they will never have a better time to do it.
Will they do it, I’m still not sure, but timing wise it works great so why not.
It would not be reinstating the full loss but a major step in that direction.
After all they can afford it if they choose

Russia can't just up its output because they are seriously short of vessels in order to maintain their current production. Especially now they are limited to supplying Aisia which obviously isnt on Russias doorstep. Going by this mornings FT article Russia will be 700,000 to 1.5mln barrels short a day due to the lack of ships. Apparently Russia have managed to grab a further 23 ships but these are over 15 years old and will need to be scrapped in the near future. These have also cost 16billion dollars so its not something they can easily fund. Especially with the discounted oil they are selling. It is expected the Russian supply will fall further in early 2023.

I would also note when you are desperate for ships you will usually be taken advantage of by someone to sell some old junk,that may be prone to breakdowns.So risk of major problems has increased( including potential for oil spill)

Considering the mess we are in energy wise, their tax decision really will make a very bad situation,possibly 3 times as bad as it could have been.
They are talking about 2 winters of issues.
Think they will manage to make it last even longer by their short sightedness.
But at least it will appeal to the masses,who will never be told the politicians made it worse

Think the market expects a cut.
So will be a big reaction if they don’t.
Some of the inflation data from US yesterday appears slightly favourable,along with the way Fed is talking.
So hopefully some less bad news coming.
Hope we see some hints of it in UK but think we may be a couple of months behind them.
Guess the dollar/ pound which is annoying from a div point of view is a sign that things slightly less worse than they were.

Since we have been conversing on here over that period,sharing many similar experiences .We have came to know and respect many fellow posters.
The 3 musketeers are often the only ones posting so it feels better to acknowledge one another than just to ignore each other.
Some people appreciate what we post, apparently we annoy some others.
This board is useful to new investors to BP and also to some who have been invested for years.

But maybe a bit behind the scenes to stop stories like today.

BP was probably due a bad news story.
If this is the worst that can come out ,think it will probably be quickly replaced by some real news very soon.
If the announcement that we were leaving Rosneft caused little more than a small blip,I would not expect much more from this.
Possibly BP should spin their story and claim they plan to use the div being accredited to them in Russia as the start of a fund to use Russian money to help rebuild Ukrainian energy after the war( but as a commercial investment,not simply a gift)

To be honest Charlie , I think does quite a bit of data collection himself.
But that site gives a good bit of useful data
