Gas storage is expensive assuming infrastructure (depleted reservoirs..) exists. Pipelijnes are reliables but maintenance (pigging.) And leaks could happen. Upstream facilities need plaaned maintenance and unplanned things could happen. So when a "large" gas turbine capacity is needed at any time because of the renewable share in the power mix then security of gas supply is critical. Lng becomes a good candidate for this role but how much is needed and whats the operational philosophy are challenging questions.

Good and difficult planning question. If u have 52% renewAble you will need some important back up gas turbine capacity. Assuming there is enough gas in morroco, relying on only one supply system (tendara) has some risks cause pipelie maintenance, upstream issues could eliminate the gas turbines frim the mix which is not acceptavle in a power system with 52% renewables.

Davey71. The lng terminal is for import. The translation of the TelQuele article a couple of weeks ago suggests there are concerns about the Lng project format and that more and more people are talking about an FSRU rather than a land based terminal. Its true that gas discovery challenges the planning of the terminal capacity but supply decurity through diversification supports the case for an lng. This is important for a country like morocco planning for an energy mix with 52% renewables by 2030.

For a potential buyer, what is the value of the GSA? Volume wise and for say a 7 tcf potential, its about 3%. True it could underpin an sp price in the 60ps but it cant be an issue in the bigger scheme of things including a decision for an LE.

Agree Jon. Just wanted to say that PIs and ogif are not 100% alligned. Say if there is an offer of 2£ now, i would assume that many pis would accept it even if a 3£ could be available a year later. Ogif would go for the latter

The issue is that ogif are not in hurry for a deal. If they are convinced with the potential, they would prefer to wait for a better occasion. At the end of the day they are a group of mainly local bankers and they need opportunities to invest money.

Lelo. Spanish gas firms are good buyers candidates . There a clear synergy with their supply portfolio to spain or europe. They might not be the most generous though.

On the "pockets" point. It depends on the size of the pockets. If there are say 10 pockets similar to the TE5 one (which is equivalent to 3.5 TCF "firm"), then even if you assume total facilities duplication, the economics are in the 4-6$, in theory. It is about what is inside(and how it is distributed) and the appetite for the potential buyers.

It is not apple for apple but shell paid 70 billion$ to het BG. At that time BG had 2.6 billion oil equivalent proven commercial reserves; around 15.3 tcf gas equivalent.
