Walgreens Boots Alliance (NASDAQ: WBA) operates a network of around 14,000 retail pharmacy stores globally, and it sells pharmacy and retail consumer healthcare products. We have divided the company’s sales in three segments ~ Pharmacy, Retail, and Pharmaceuticals Wholesale. The Pharmacy business, which makes revenues by sales of prescription drugs and provision of pharmacy related services, is expected to contribute $84 billion to Walgreens fiscal 2020 revenues, making up 60% of the company’s $140 billion in expected revenues for fiscal 2020. Its other businesses, Retail and Wholesale Pharmaceuticals are expected to generate $35 billion and $21 billion in revenues in fiscal 2020, accounting for 25% and 15% of total revenues, respectively. Walgreens fiscal 2016 sales were bolstered by the consolidation of Alliance Boots numbers. However, of late, the UK business has been facing pressure from online retailers, impacting the company’s international operations. This trend is expected to continue in the near term. Below we discuss Walgreens’ business model, followed by sections that review past performance and fiscal 2020 expectations for the company’s revenue drivers.
