Added 26th Feb 28th Feb and also in family ISA yesterday. Seemed the right thing with results due.

Very content with the lift and stick to my rules.

Overall my approach works well for me and can carry losses when necessary but actively work out of an adverse position where possible.

Re SFOR - yes underwater there.

Mobico have traded into profit so content there as many carry losses.

As regards HFDs traded 3 times over the last year and all successfully. Decided, for me the risk is to the downside unless a bid comes in but will reenter sub 140p and add on any further drops to 120/130p if it happens. If not I will wish the holders well.

My concern here is they have already flagged up they expect no improvement, even during their peak Easter trading. That is a red flag waving in front of everyone for now. I fell the move down was overdown but from 136 - to 154p I expect a retest to come.

Who knows really, not you or I but I avoided being caught here so that is a win for now.

I generally add and trim the same stocks. Think about this.

TW. travelled iirc from 160 to 90p to 120p to 95p to 148p 134p and many other trades in between. In the example above potentially you could have captured 110p (70+25+15) by trimming, 83p (30+53) by adding after the initial entry that went wrong.

A total of 193p (and many more other moves in between) plus of course the dividend from TW.

Of course you will not capture all the moves but by tranches capturing even 1/3 you can easily see a sub £1 average or much lower.

Have abundant patience - months or years on some shares and never panic out. See a 30% fall as an opportunity rather than a disaster.

FWIW everyday is a learning even for me !

(Buy TW @ 160p - it went sub 90p - it still worked out handsomely even though the price stiggles at the 148/9 level.)

Just seen, out of ITV for now and it it goes to £1 then I am happy for others. So many undervalued stocks here to add and lower average so looking around.

Many a spike up I have held only to watch it spike and crash back. Travel is sometimes as good as arriving. I did wonder about the 40p trim, so thanks for clarifying.

Just seen, those on here know how I roll - add time lower average - usually keep a core in a stock. In many cases I do post when I add / trim. Average in / average out as long as it lowers average until on right side of trade. Have exited ITV this morning fully and happy with my profit but will readd again. Even though there may be more profit ahead here, for now I will sit out ITV until a pullback. For others it may go to 80p or a bid but for me what is important is the entry exit and average cost.

Come out up as I buy low and sell higher and am content to hold for years if necessary. and average down when the SP moves the wrong way. eg VANQ JD. HFD DLG ABDN and many more.

eg CBG - I chanced a small 1st trade at 530 at end of Jan and good fortune sold at a slight profit the next day. Dodged a bullet. Went back in 13 Feb with the drop and it looked good for a short time and then caught.. BOOM down to 280p but could have been worse and again only a small amount of shares.

Added well at 280/290 and trimmed at 350/ 322 and now hold a core (Qty x 2 of my initial trade) and sitting with a sub 295p average. This core I will trim and readd to attempt to get a larger sub £2 average and then it is safe to hold.

Portfolio of around 100 stocks at any given time and on a spike I trim, a drop I add within specified ranges and exit some at times happy with my profit. Most stocks trade within a range and few go bust. Most days I have a 10% + winner somewhere and many losers too. Today top is ITV (trim / exit) and SDRY the biggest loser - trimmed yesterday but not buying back yet.

Depending on the company strictly trim the winners eg Currys recently in case the spike is short lived or future profits missed. Many rewarding turnarounds and yes a few donkeys like AVON HARL PFC BOO SN. but trade within to lower averages and it works out with patience.

I do not recommend what I do, but am content to hold losses as they are transient in most cases and dividend income is always useful.

Think the move is done for now and can see this settle around here until results. Time to rebuy may well be post results and post ex div as the shares will probably travel around the 64p of today.

Jed - few could do worse than the Dame but if the SP was over £2 it would not be a trader as it is. Steady income + trading opportunities galore.

Assuming there will be a pull back, but as ITV is the giver that keeps on giving I will always readd when the opportunity arises.

Caution here is that today's RNS is a buttering up prior to the results which will maintain the dividend and warn on advertising. Hopefully not but I retain my core holding at a low average cost and loving the swings here.
