Here is the article from the BBC. When Avacta proved that they could detect the Delta using Affidx it was a major milestone the importance of which was missed by investors - this isn't surprising considering some of the comments on here yesterday (lacking background and experience). The listed companies in the leisure and travel sectors took a big hit yesterday which should be a sign as to how the market is taking the news. The current spread of Omicron will catalyse the CDTA and HUA and Avacta application results are imminent.

The Delta variant mutation was in the spike protein, but as we all know that Affidx detects Delta efficiently. That in itself was a fantastic endorsement for the test. Which I guess some investors weren't aware of the significance.

In the S. African variant, the RBD is the key area of interest the rest of the spike less so. Changes to the sequence can modify the structure, but thankfully we are using affimers which are a fraction of the size of antibodies allowing for a stronger binding affinity.

The importance of a fast and ultra sensitive lateral flow test is evident especially as new variants are announced. Today we've had a range of countries taking action to stop the spread of the South African variant:

- Israel on ‘threshold of state of emergency’ as officials brace for more cases of new variant
- Czech Republic to ban travellers from southern Africa
- Singapore bans travel from seven African countries on variant fears
- Airline shares dive after variant discovery prompts travel bans

and so the list continues.

As we receive news of Affidx both for self-test and CTDA validation from the Gov., there will inevitably be high demand for the test. Thankfully Medusa19 are on the case, as are Avacta in scaling up the test production (see previous Abingdon tweets).

For reference here are my comments:

In their recent independent [1] paper by Castan and colleagues [2] Affidx was clinically evaluated. The key take home points are as follows.

Using S1 protein in diagnostics is beneficial due to both functionality (ACE2 interaction) and structural accessibility. A total of 250 samples from consenting patients (of any age, gender, or race/ethnicity who presented at the test site) were tested with 150 negative samples and 100 positive samples and each test was in agreement with the ISO 15189. The testers were minimally trained operators, with little laboratory experience who received no previous training on use of the AffiDX® SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid test. This was representative of true intended user setting. At Ct = 28, both specificity and sensitivity (S&S) are 100%. Avacta are also running a parallel study under review for publishing that delve further into comparative analysis versus a complete panel of LFDs.

In context; this study independently adds further data underlining the very high specificity and sensitivity of AffiDx, making this one of the most accurate LFTs in the world. The tests were in agreement with ISO 15189 and the testing included patients of any race/ethnicity. Which would be useful for APAC countries. Furthermore, the tests were used by minimally qualified individuals to replicate true to situation setting (ideal for HUA). The future study highlighted will no doubt provide additional quality data especially under comparative analysis and will differentiate the Affidx test compared to other companies.

The AffiDx covid-19 test at Ct = 28 gave a 100% S&S and was only marginally reduced (98%) at Ct = 30. The cost of RT-PCR tests can be prohibitively high in many countries across the globe for whom a *highly accurate* cheaper LFD would certainly help alleviate the spread of covid-19.

For me, this certainly provides upwards momentum for the stock and increases my conviction for the company who have done an exemplary job. There are very few studies out there who provide such quality data, Mologic was commended by Professor Deeks for doing so and I can only applaud Avacta for taking similar steps.

I am under the impression that we will be discussing APAC agreements in the near future and can see that this paper would lend strength to future agreements and revenue streams. Furthermore the ease of use will certainly be underlining the self-test application submitted by Medus-19.

The naysayers on the Novacyt BB have gone silent. There is a strong impetus for the Gov to get a move on, they've now had 3 times longer than what they stated, the new VoC is adding pressure and it's coming to a point where it is imminent.

As we are all aware that the Medusa19 brochure is genuine and was circulated at the recent trade show. What will be fascinating is the data mentioned in there:

Clinical Sensitivity Ct<27, 99.4% with 168 samples
Clinical Specificity, 99.7% with 639 samples

This is without doubt one of the best tests in the world and no doubt the CTDA application will be a very strong one.

The EU President Ursula von der Leyen put out this tweet gauging how seriously this variant is being taken:

Also to note that entertainment and travel stocks are heavily down in the markets. Covid related stocks are making are on the rise due to the variant of concern. It is a matter of urgency that the UK Gov process the best tests double quick.

CTDA news looks imminent. Today Novacyt confirmed that one of their tests was accepted by the Government under the CTDA guidelines. One point of interest was the 2nd November RNS released by both Avacta and Novacyt with very similar language. From this and a few other releases it's clear that there is some collaboration between various small UK Covid diagnostic companies. I'm under the impression that the companies submitted their applications around the same time. Also to note that the Gov. have pulled their finger out and started processing the various applications. The variant of concern news is going to act as a strong catalyst to speed up the process.

I'm expecting the results for CTDA imminently.

Regarding the MAE I believe the “outbreaks of illness or other acts of God” is important but not as important as the Cineplex deferred accounts and the move away from ordinary course.

This is an intriguing case, but not quite what slightly over thought. From prior cases I think this is positive for Cineworld, but there is a lot of complexity. Contrary to what some would think, Cineworld isn't leaning heavily for a material adverse events case purely because Cineplex added the pandemic clause in the contract prior to Covid-19 (smart cookies at Cineplex). Instead this case pivots more so on proving that Cineplex did not act in the ordrdinary course of business. When Cineplex deferred its accounts payable by >60 days, reduced spending to the “bare minimum,” and stopped paying landlords, movie studios, film distributors and suppliers at the start of the pandemic, this became far from ordinary course. The Cineplex deal was worth $2.18 billion and I still feel that is cheap. Even with the added compensation $664 million it would still be cheap.

Right now as cinemas have stronger returns, this could be a very good situation to be in for Cineworld. The operating territories UK, US and Israel all with high vaccinated numbers. Canada would also fall into that category. As long as these countries retain their vaccination boosters, then I feel that Cineworld would benefit either way.

My view is that Cineworld will win the case if the case is concluded shortly and judging by Cineplex's recent comments, regarding it being a fair trial, I feel Cineplex will accept the judgement whichever way it falls.

To me it looks positive either way, but no doubt some investors will get spooked out. I don't think they should. Anyone shorting may get a bit of a jolt in the near future.
