The UK independent, which yesterday revealed it has gained a foothold in Libya through an asset buy, has completed testing on the oil-bearing Upper Cretaceous reservoir of the Miran West-3 well in Kurdistan. Heritage achieved a maximum flow rate of 1950 barrels of oil per day but stressed the rate was “severely restricted by the capacity of the surface test equipment”. Drilling to 876 metres, the company confirmed gross in-place contingent volumes of between 53 million and 75 million barrels of oil. Development wells could also yield between 8000 barrels of oil per day and 10,000 bopd, the company wrote in a statement on Wednesday. Although the oil is estimated at 15 degrees API, Heritage said it found “very little associated gas”. The company was hoping for around 9 trillion cubic feet of gas and between 42 million and 70 million barrels of condensate from the well which was spudded in early August. Heritage is the operator of the Miran block with Genel Energy International taking the remainder. On Tuesday the London-listed company revealed that it had bought a 51% stake in Benghazi-based Sahara Oil Services Holdings for $19.5 million, making a move it hopes will give it a leading role in developing Libya’s oil and gas industry.
