I think we have all forgotten that Labour will be in power next year, with Starmer, and that complete and utter Buffon shadow energy secretary Ed Miliband will put a spanner in the works, Centrica should prepare for this by announcing that they will be registering the company from Ireland where we have a legit business if they start meddling with the energy Industry as a whole, Miliband was the one who started the decline In the power Industry all those years go and shouldn't be aloud meddle again.
Another Johnny come lately trying to nick the business from BG, not many households have these batteries in the home where they can store energy and then send it back to the net for payment, but I'm sure if it catches on BG would quickly install their own system, but what makes me laugh is that we have people like Farage backing an American company against our own, it just goes to show how shallow some of these political commentators are. I think we are the only country in the world where we would sell our country out for political gain or money, unbelievable and you would think Farage would be the last one to do this.
Centrica will do well over the next year but will begin to stall getting closer to the general election, as we all know that a Labour government will always talk as if they're the answer to all the country's ill's before they get in but will always ruin the country during their tenure, the older you are you will remember what labour is all about "spend spend spend and more and more immigration", the young who vote for labour haven't got a clue I myself voted for Blair in 97 the biggest mistake of my life until you establish yourself in a career and perhaps invest in property and shares you think everything should be cheap or free. I will be getting nearer to my retirement when labour gets in, time for me to consolidate my money and hide it before the labour thieves get in and bring in new laws to legally still my savings with new taxes affecting only those who have diligently saved and invested over the years.
If BT can keep ahead of VM02 in the FTTP in shear numbers it will be a turning point in BT's expansion away from copper and an increase in profitability, people on "SHARE CHAT" apart from people like myself who work in the industry do not understand the costs involved in keeping the copper network serviced, when the changeover starts in 2 years if BT has completed its FTTP program and got over the battery problem VOIP through the router sorted (simply supply a router with a rechargeable battery) then the sky's the limit on profitability. The Altnets will try and compete with the big boys but they just haven't got the money backing them and the time needed. Driving through the countryside and looking at miles and miles of telephone poles you know the cost of setting up fiber around the country will be too costly an outlay for the altnets to compete with us nationwide.
One has to remember that the Government has a stake in Octopus energy so doing anything rash will cause the deal to fall through, there just covering their backs the cold weather is still here so the energy companies are still making money Ofgem cannot lower the cap too low otherwise the smaller energy companies will fold which will leave less competition. When the Government hints that the help to pay bills will be extended you know they're on the back foot I would call their bluff sit tight and enjoy the ride, remember nothing is free in this world and we all have to pay our share to make things tick over no matter what the cost.
Our country, (our country) or is it ? We tend to think that we are in control of our destinies but where not. The woke's of this country are slowly destroying our culture and the way we live by imposing rules that only help the down and outs and lazy people that use and abuse our system, for example, Ofgem telling Centrica to stop installing pre-payment meters which I must say are being installed legally, so Centrica must take a hit and lose thousands of pounds, we have a self-destruction mentality running this country, while most other countries tend to talk their countries up we always talk ours down. There are thousands of people trying to get into Brittain just because they know once they get here everything will be free and paid for by the taxpayer, they are all unchecked people which include rapists and murderers. I fear a Labour-woke government if you think the Tories are bad just wait until Starmer and his gang get into power you aint seen nothing yet. If you work hard and invest some money for you and your family's future I suggest getting rid of your shares spend everything you got because Labour will penalize you and tax you to the hilt and most probably hit you with a windfall tax because you have the audacity to try and better yourself. Ten years I've invested with Centrica and seen political interference from both sides slowly erode my savings, and now things have started to pick up we will soon be lumbered with a Labour government what a nightmare.
Kiwitwo, What planet are you living on (maybe a rebate to customer bills) this is Centrica's time to make a profit as I said before Centrica makes very little profit on the customer side, this is mainly profit from the upstream business, "Centrica is not a charity". Next year could be completely different, they should make hay while the sun still shining. I haven't heard of any other blue chip company offering to pay customer bills, the shareholders have lost thousands on this share so it's about time they receive something back for loyalty over the last ten years.
My Oh My, What a quandary Ofgem and the Government are getting themselves into over the installation of prepayment meters, if the last two years haven't taught them anything then Ofgem and the Government do not deserve to be a regulator and in power, with the escalation of non-bill payers any company could-would topple over just like the thirty or so energy companies that have disappeared over the last two years, remember British gas make very little profit from their customer business in the UK, most of the profit comes from their upstream and storage business in fact the last two years the customer business side has made a loss, the company must do all they can to make sure they are getting paid for the product they produce, when you see single parent families moaning about not having enough money to pay the bills I often think to myself where's their partner or ex-partner to help them with the bills they cannot blame anyone else but themselves, of course, the disabled mentally disturbed and pensioners should be helped by the government but not by the Centrica shareholders, we have all lost money over the last ten years because of the interference of Ofgem and the politicians this is not a nationlised company wait untill Keir Stamer and his gang get into power and form a nationalised power company then you will get free energy but ofcourse we tried that once before and all we got was power outages and strikes.
One has to look in disbelief at the Centrica share price, the stock market seems to be hesitating to increase the value of the share price when millions of households have turned the heating up high using more than double the amount of gas than say a week ago but at the moment the share price has stayed stagnant, from memory all household will receive a total of £550 over the winter to put towards their heating costs. So the likely hood of mass nonpayment of energy bills has been put to bed for the moment, me thinks that the fear of an early general election is the culprit Starmer has said that if he wins the next election he will within two years start up a nationalized green energy company! has this stammered the share price, although this would cost billions (taxpayer's money of course) the idiots that vote him in think it will cost nothing to set up and that the energy that is produced will be sold at cost, I'm under the understanding that green energy costs more to produce than gas, I fear a Labour government this country is already going downhill under the Conservative but under Labour, I fear it will be an avalanche.
Centrica has earmarked 50 million to help vulnerable customers I would expect Centrica to renege on that if there is any windfall tax or stealth tax made to pay by the company, after all the retail side is losing money.
The talks with the unions will mainly be about mutual redundancies of staff, those willing to go with a package, it makes no sense now to increase the wages when we're looking to make more savings of five hundred million, in the long run, we will benefit because the alnets will struggle and will have to be bought out, its no secret that BT isn't worried about the alnets because they won't be around in 10 years which by then the fiber rollout will be finished with most of the copper gone you will only need half the staff we got now.
We have to look at the bigger picture I'm not a manager or part of the board, but I want a job in 10 years' time, and the way we're going we will be lucky to last five, the cost of living crisis affects everyone and every company, we will all have to economize to see us through this recession the CWU seem to want to make this strike personal against Phil because he was awarded a 32% payrise by the board but he will the first one to go if things in the BT don't improve, all the unions seemed to do is alienate people like me against them by going on about BT paying dividends to shareholders but hello 50% of us are shareholders so you want to reduce our share income also, I think the average wage is around £38000 per year (including overtime) not bad not great but I'm prepared to hang on for better times so that I can retire on a reasonable pension which by the way is in deficit by 10 billion pounds.
I’m sorry as an engineer with Openreach and a shareholder I can see the difficulties that BT have we are at a stage of a new revolution of FTTP BT are losing the battle to the smaller Allnets, the cost of living crisis is also affecting big companies, BT needs to make this 15 billion investment for our futures otherwise there will be mass redundancy along the line. I can’t see how the CWU can call a strike when they know the engineers simply do overtime to cover the money they have lost through the strike action, also quite a few are shareholders in the company, we have to move with the times then reap the benefits when things start to improve because at end of the day we need a strong company to get through this recession over the next 3 years.
tonyj, Sorry it's not a case of not having a clue, my point is that politicians should not interfere with business by making price-effective statements, every time a negative statement is uttered from a politician of all colours about energy the price drops dramatically if there's a problem it should be sorted by OFGEM, Centrica has been destroyed by politicians over the last 11 years thank god we have a Prime Minister now that understands big business.
God help us if Labour gets into power, they have no Idea of economics only economics of envy he calls for a "freeze on fuel prices" but who's going to pay for that, the taxpayers are, and most of the power companies are foreign-owned or non-fuel producing even if they renationalise the industry we are still going to have pay through higher taxes, as a country we can't say we pay what we want because "fuel prices are international" the big oil companies would not deal with us, where paying for previous governments imposing price caps on fuel prices to appease the voting population we've had it good far too long that's why the shareholders of Centrica haven't had a divi for 3 years, Its time for us to make money from our Investments, get real Starmer this is a capitalist country, not a communist one.
Most of the big utility companies are foreign or foreign-backed they would just pull out of the UK, and make things worse for the country, you're talking out of your backside as usual Aspers. as for going back to the sixties, CNA is into other profit-generating businesses which will generate profit for the company.
O'Shea has to start earning his bonus for 2022 after he turned down one for 2021 and rightly so after freezing the divided for the last three years, Centrica is a top 100 footsie company and should start acting like one and not worry what the media think or the public and get on with running Centrica and if where doing well pay a dividend accordingly, when Maggie flogged of BG all public liability ceased, joe public think BG is still owned by them "no its owned by the share owners" and we want our dividends restored without having to worry about what anybody thinks, if you have taken a chance and invested money in this company then your entitled a return on your capital if that company is in profit.
Centrica will have to start thinking about paying a divi pretty soon, if that turn coat Sunak starts taxing the Electric providers which he's hinted at then that's our divi gone, Oshea's going to have to make a decision soon before Sunak nicks the money I would bet on it that centrica will pay out sooner rather than later to appease the share holders, but no special divi to much divi might upset the lefty do gooders.
This Goverment is finished hate to say it as a Tory voter but the next Goverment will be labour or a Lab/Lib pact which will distroy this country even more, as a proud Englishman I voted for the Tories to make this country great again but all Boris has done has made us look like a laughing stock around the world, how where we all fooled by this baffoon, just think about a Goverment run by Keir Starmer, mass immigration of the wrong type, free money for all people who don't wont to work, I think its time to stop Investing in this country becaues anybody who does will be deemed to have tomuch money and be opened to some sort of tax grab to help bail the Goverment out of their self made problems,
