Kind of difficult to answer (as always!). But in terms of what HUR would "prefer".....that would depend on the cash in the bank and what plans they had for it. Seeing as HUR have already overseen a massive shareholder dilution two years ago when the price declined by approx two thirds, I doubt another 20-25% increase in the amount of stock would be an issue. If of course, they have plenty of spare cash, then they may want to use that and avoid dilution. However, this decision would be out of their hands as the decision would be made depending on the level of the stock price.
Very true Beerbull, and on that note, for every short seller, there is an additional long holder.

The investment "may" be an indirect investment in the stock, VIA, CB's.
Basically, in order to reduce the interest cost of the bond the company can also issue a stock option, which the lender can exercise to buy the stock at a cheape price in the future. Or, constantly hedge, as is often the case. Thus holding a perennial short stock position.
