RE: SOUTH AFRICAN MEDICAL STUDIES OMICROM18 Dec 2021 12:59
Interesting point and indeed easily confusing and difficult to asses, virus reduced virulent with heard immunity and increased immunization.
In between there are vaccines and their function to reduce mortality in long terms, with the many different technologies like DNA,RNA PROTEINES, ATTENUATED VIRUS, etc which makes thing even more complicated to asses.
No wonder we are in a mess regarding decision making on what to do, if lock down or reopening if vaccinating or not.
I have gone the full range (not of my choice) having caught corvid in January, the vaccinate with 2 Astra and third shot with Modern just to try a bit of RNA as well (would be rude to say no).
..and still it seems that i am back to day one covid regarding travelling and many other day to day things.
If is true that Omicron is just less lethal due to previous waves of covid infection, we should see proportionate increased hospitalization with increased contagion, in the west, where vaccines were first used and therefore less heard immunity tuck place.
The thing is that there are so many variables when comparing these data that it become almost a useless exercise.
Unfortunately the only secure fact/info about this and any virus is that the most effective way to fight it is distancing and preventive measure rather than vaccinating, one as to ask how long it can go on for the world to be concerned with Covid-19 when we had other waves of corona virus in the past, which eventually faded away..
Only yesterday Novavax vaccine was approved for review on emergency use by the WHO, this is a protein vaccine that can be easily and fast produced and more importantly easily distributed
