Does anyone know how many people Vametco employs, fulltime and casual, and what are the average gross wages roughly? I can't see these figures in the annual results, tho every other figure imaginable is there. It may be on the website somewhere.

The fact is, we have all been talking loudly about profits of the order of £100m. p.a. and more.
Naturally, anyone working eight hours a day in a hot, noisy, smoky environment is going to want a fair share of that.
But what is a fair share, in all the circumstances? That is the difficult question, and it will take longer than ten minutes, or maybe ten hours, to resolve it.

Personally, I think the coincidence is suspicious; but perhaps that's just my suspicious mind.
By the way, I can find nothing about the current dispute on weeklyxpose.co.za. Not as well informed (or maybe not as interested) as you would expect.

Good as TBP is, it is not essential reading to know the broad outlines of what is projected at BMN. Ten minutes on this board will tell you all you need to know. I have no doubt the BMN workforce is well informed, and I do not see that as a problem.
However .. if someone in Brits picks up the phone to someone in London and says, 'Hi, Jim, you might like to know the boys here are planning a walkout tomorrow' - and if Jim calls his broker in the morning and sells some BMN - is that insider trading as defined and prohibited by law? I think it must be, but not easy to prove. You would need phone logs to establish a pattern.

Also sounds like there are a few investors who are in close touch with what's happening on the ground. Again, it is to be expected. Just hope it's not coordinated - that would be very serious.

We can well afford to settle this on reasonable terms, but important not to have continuing guerilla action. This time we should try to ensure it stays settled. Whether the issues are legacy or not, is irrelevant.

Sure. I would just like to know more about what went down - did the protest just die away after 4 days, were the police involved, were there talks, if so with whom and with what outcome? Maybe something in tomorrow's xpose (I think it updates Fridays).

Obviously none of the mining companies could find 1000 jobs within a week, or a month, or indeed a year.
Nonetheless it would be a mistake to dismiss the agitation as so much hot air.
I think this is the second time the campaign has surfaced. The first time, maybe a year ago, we were told a small crowd had temporarily blocked one road, without cutting off other access to the plant.
The recent demonstration was clearly on a much larger scale, much longer sustained, and I think it would be prudent to take it seriously.
